Sum 41's guitarist, Dave Baksh, made the big announcement that he was leaving the band a couple of weeks ago. Now the remaining members of Sum 41 are speaking out about Dave's departure. The band posted a message on their website wishing Dave well. They said that they are bummed that Dave left the band, but he still has their support. Sum 41 also said that they are busy working on the follow up to Chuck, and things are going well in the studio so far. Sum 41 will be doing a couple of dates this summer on the Warped Tour, but they won't be playing the Detroit date.

Incubus has been busy working on their 5th studio cd all year. It looks like the cd is going to drop in October sometime, but an official release date has not been set. Incubus has made a new podcast available, so you can see what they've been up to lately. The podcast includes the band answering fan questions, a discussion of possible titles for the new cd, info regarding their Make Yourself Foundation, and so much more. Download the Incubus podcast here, or just visit the band's official website and follow the links from there.
Dashboard Confessional recently performed three songs for an AOL Session. You can catch the band's performance right here. The band played "Don't Wait", "Vindicated" and the old Big Country song, "In A Big Country."

You can also check out Dashboard's official website and ask Chris Carraba a question. Apparently he answers questions from the fans each week on the website.

Dashboard's new cd, Dusk & Summer will be in stores on June 27th. And don't miss the band at the 89x 15th Birthday Bash on June 18th.
Social Distortion is busy working on the follow up to Sex, Love and Rock N Roll. Their new cd won't be out until some time next year, but in July the band is going to road test some of their new songs while on a short tour of the west coast. "We've dripped this town dry. But if destiny's kind, there will be other doorbells to ring. London sounds nice. So from stars and stripes to union jacks, the freight train keeps on burning. That's the ticket. Godspeed the boys."

Sounds like someone's finishing up their new cd in Jolly Ol' England.
The Lostprophets will be back with a new cd called Liberation Transmission on June 27th. The first single "Rooftops" debuted on 89x last week. Now you can check out the video for "Rooftops." Clicky-clicky.

Check out the video for Pearl Jam's latest single, "Life Wasted" on their official website. You can download it for free though May 24th.
You may find this marginally funny. It's a video of a stand up comic performing his very special interpretation of the history of dance. Yep, he dances to Elvis, Michael Jackson, the Bee Gees, Vanilla Ice, McHammer and more.
Here's the link to the site I was talking about on the air. It's an interesting music blog with samples of mp3's. You can check out outtakes from Morrissey's Viva Hate cd, plus there's also material from the Cure, the Clash and other stuff. Just scroll around.

According to the blog, they only keep the songs they've posted on the site for 2-7 days, so jump on it.

**Download/sample at your own risk...I am absolved of all blame if the RIAA comes a-knockin'.

I came across a website a couple of days ago that offers hysterical tips/advice on a variety of things. By far, this is my favorite article: So you wanna fake being an indie rock expert!

Here's a couple of gems from the article:

The first thing you should do is alter your bathing habits. By no means does that mean you should develop a complete disregard for hygiene, but you might want to cut back on the frequency with which you wash your hair. The "bedhead" look is too obvious, but a modified bedhead with a greasy sheen to it will have you blending right in with the crowd at the indie rock show.

Got a nice car? Good. Lose it. If you want to be indie rock you can't drive a car that has fewer than 100,000 miles on the odometer and had an original sticker price of more than $20K. As a rule, money is antithetical to indie rock. Unless you are Matt Groening, it's hard to make piles of cash when you are a clever cynic (as most indie rockers like to think of themselves).

Whatever you do, don't read Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone is for housewives and teenage girls. In Rolling Stone you can read about Puff Daddy and Lillith Fair. That's the kind of fodder that feeds indie rock disdain. Spin - it's for poseurs. You might be best off flipping through a copy of Alternative Press. But don't buy it off the newsstand. Paying retail is not at all indie rock.

Know about Minneapolis in the heyday of the '80s, when the Replacements, Hüsker Dü, and Soul Asylum (they used to be cool) were the underground holy trinity of rock. Drop mentions of the Replacements whenever possible. Oh, and also mention Peter Jesperson, even if you have no idea who he is. It doesn't matter. Just say something like, "Yeah, I hear Jesperson's got something new going on," then just bluff your way from there.

By the way, the website also features helpful articles in case you want to fake being a wine expert, get a sex change, learn how to lie persuasively, or fake an appreciation for art.
Jack White has apparently struck back at "fans" that have disparaged him for creating a Coca-Cola jingle. According to gigwise.com, White is quoted as saying, “they (fans) assume someone drove up to my house with a truck full of money and a gun to my head, and said, 'Crack open a Coke on television and give the thumbs up.' That's not what happened. I saw a beautiful ad, and I wrote a song for it because I was inspired by it."

In more Jack White related news...the Raconteurs will release their debut cd, Broken Boy Soldiers tomorrow! Thursday night they are scheduled to perform on Conan O'Brien's show, so dust off the Tivo.
Today's the day! Tool will be at the Fox Theater tonight for a sold out show! Don't forget that 89x is giving away 2nd row tickets to tonight's show. Show up outside the Fox Theater tonight at 5:30 in an 89x T-shirt and the x-team may give you tickets to tonight's show! You have to have an 89x shirt on though. If you don't have one, you can make one (there's still time!) and you can still be in the running for tickets.

Don't worry though, Tool will kick off an 8-week North American arena tour in late summer/early fall. The dates haven't been scheduled yet since the exact timing of the tour isn't quite settled. Maynard owns a vineyard, and he wants to oversee the harvesting of his grape crop. Once it becomes apparent exactly when he needs to be in Arizona for grape duty, the dates will be set. For more on Maynard's vineyard click here.

In the meantime, enjoy the lyrics from Tool's latest single, "Vicarious"

Vicarious - Tool

Eye on the the TV
'Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...
"Killed by the husband"
"Drowned by the ocean"
"Shot by his own son"
"She used a poison
in his tea...kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies

Don't look at me like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child
Watches them die
Hands to the sky crying,
"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write as the story's told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain come down
Drown my grave and ground
Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and Voyeur
Stare at the transmittal
Sing to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out you hippies
please, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I

Thom Yorke from Radiohead is going to release a solo record in July. The Eraser is reportedly going to drop in July, however it is unclear who is going to put out the release. It may be released on XL, but it may also turn up as a download only release. Eraser was written entirely by Yorke, and he also played all the instruments on the cd. Yorke said, "it was fun and quick to do. Inevitably it is more beats and electronics...yes, it's a record. No, it's not a Radiohead record. It was all done with their blessing." Read more about the cd here.

Oh, and there's a glimmer of hope for Radiohead fans in the Detroit area! The band is going to tour next year after their full length cd is released. So they may be in the area then. Like I said, it's a glimmer of hope.
Bjork is going to release a box set called Surrounded on June 27th. Inside the hot pink metallic box is a plethora of Bjork goodness! Her full album catalogue is compiled on 7 dual discs. The audio portion of each dual disc will contain the original music from the album, the dvd portion will contain videos and other goodies. Here's a link to more info on the collection.

Angels & Airwaves have a new video and song for you to check out. "Valkyrie Missile" is posted and ready for you on their myspace page. The band's full-length debut cd, We Don't Need To Whisper, drops May 23rd, then the band drops into town June 29th for a big 89x show at Meadowbrook. Head Automatica, the Subways, and Taking Back Sunday are also on the bill.

In more A&A news...the band had to cancel a couple of shows in Los Angeles this past week. Tom Delonge was having trouble with his vocal cords, so his doctor told him to take a few days off to rest his voice. Delonge and company are back tearing it up tonight at the sold out Weenie Roast concert in Irvine, California. Be sure to catch A&A on Letterman this Monday night.

You've heard the new AFI single, "Miss Murder", on 89x. Now watch the video! The full length cd from AFI, Decemberunderground, drops June 6th. And don't miss 'em at the 89x 15th Birthday Bash on June 18th!
Well, it looks like the Alice In Chains big announcement will be anything but. A couple of days ago there was a message on the official AIC website that proclaimed the band would make a huge, earth shattering announcement Monday. Turns out, one of the band's webguys got into a frenzy over nothing and posted the message in error. The band has since removed the message from their website. So essentially: never mind.

In other AIC news, the band's recent performance on the VH1 program, Decades Rock Live, will be turned into a dvd. Look for the live dvd to hit stores in the fall.

Alice In Chains is set to make a big announcement on Monday at 7pm (4pm PST). The band says that the announcement is, "so big that we can't even hint at what it's about but we can tell you that you'll be kicking yourself later if you don't stop by the site Monday." So don't deny yourself! Check out the official site on Monday. Odds are, it has something to do with their upcoming North American tour.

While you are waiting for the Big Secret to be revealed, check out a live version of "Rooster" by Alice In Chains with special guests William DuVall and Ann Wilson. It's cool and all, but it's just not the same without Layne Staley.
The Deftones have a new cd coming your way in September. You can get a taste of the new single, "Beware the Water" here. Look for the still untitled full length cd to drop on September 12th. The Deftones are expected to be hitting the road as part of the upcoming Family Values tour with Korn this summer. No dates are officially official yet, but keep checking back for updates.

The Chili Peppers are coming to town November 3rd for a big 89x show at the Palace. Tickets go on sale this Saturday morning at 10am. But you don't have to wait until then to snatch up some tickets! The big wigs at 89x secured a schload of tickets AND what's more...they want to give them to you! For free! Just for being you! All this Thursday, listen for RHCP songs...when you hear one, be caller X (um...that's 10 for our non-Roman friends) and you can grab a pair of RHCP tickets before they even go on sale! Life is fair after all, isn't it????

I just checked an online site where you can buy and sell concert tickets (no, not ticketmaster). I was looking at the Radiohead tour dates just to see how much tickets were going for. Sticker Shock!!! Tickets for the Chicago shows are going for as much as $3295 a ticket!!! Wow. Of course, some tickets are being sold for only $122 bucks, which is somewhat reasonable. But the most egregious scalping is going on for Radiohead's Montreal show. The highest end tickets are going for...hold your breath...$9800 bucks a pop. No, that wasn't a typo. Are these scalpers smoking crack? I am sure that Thom Yorke would wholeheartedly disapprove. Just say no to scalpers.

The Replacements collection, Don't You Know Who I Think I Was? The Best Of The Replacements, drops on June 13th. The cd compiles 18 of the band's greatest songs, but this collection is unlike others that are available in that songs from both the Twin/Tone and Sire/Reprise eras are included. Plus there are 2 new songs that the band recorded at the end of last year. The two new songs titles are: "Message To The Boys" and "Pool & Dive." Check out rhino's official website to hear a sample of all of the songs on the compilation, including the two new songs!
Depeche Mode reissues are coming your way in June. The band is going to reissue Speak & Spell (1981), Music For The Masses (1987), and Violator (1990) on June 6th. Each reissue will contain the original material, b-sides, and a bonus dvd.

Here's the tracklisting for the reissue of Speak & Spell.

Here's the tracklisting for Music For The Masses.

Here's the tracklisting for Violator.

Dave & Chuck the Freak (aka the Morning X) will be giving away a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this week on the show.

When I think of Puerto Vallarta, only one thing comes to mind...

Scroll down!

The Love Boat...soon will be making another run! The Love Boat...promising something for everyone! Yes, it's true. The Love Boat ALWAYS docked when they got to Puerto Vallarta! That gave the loving couples a chance to break up and threaten to leave their estranged lover! Good times!

Your crew members...

Kootchie, kootchie, kootchie!

Korn's drummer, David Silvera, is getting ready to open a new restaurant in Huntington Beach, California. Silvera Steak House & Lounge will offer up "fine steaks, fine wines, and martinis." The official website is under construction, but you can sign up for the mailing list here. FYI, this isn't Silvera's first foray into the wonderful world of chow. He opened up a sushi bar--Tuna Town-- a couple of years ago.

Radiohead's North American tour is set to launch on June 1st. As mentioned previously, the band will do two-night stands in each city it visits. The tour kicks June 1st in the fine metropolis that is Upper Derby, Pennsylvania and ends June 30th at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. And of course, they are bypassing the great city of Detroit. Here are the tour dates...read 'em and weep! Boo, hiss.

June 7 & 8 Toronto

June 10 & 11 Montreal

June 13 & 14 New York City

June 23 & 24 Berkeley

June 26 & 27 San Diego

June 29 & 30 Los Angeles

Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda recently did an interview with MTV news. He revealed that progress is being made on the new cd. Apparently the band has written about 60 songs for the cd (for Meteora, the band wrote 70-90 songs). Shinoda says that the cd will sound a little bit different from the band's previous records. Expect the new Linkin Park masterpiece to drop in late fall.

In the meantime keep it on 89x to hear the latest single from Fort Minor, Shinoda's side project. "Where'd You Go" is from the cd The Rising Tied, which was released back in January.
Ministry's new cd, Rio Grande Blood, was released on Tuesday, but you can check out a stream of the cd right here while supplies last! Don't miss Ministry with the Revolting Cocks on Saturday, June 24th at Harpos.
You can check out a stream of Stadium Arcadium in its entirety here. The cd drops on Tuesday.

The Red Hot Chili Pepper's new cd, Stadium Arcadium, will be in stores on Tuesday. Apparently the cd has leaked online, and the band is not happy. They aren't so much angry as they are sad. Flea took to his journal and explained to fans how much the leaking of the cd hurts him. Read all about it here.
It's official...the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released the dates for their upcoming North American tour. The tour kicks off August 11th in Portland, Oregon, and they do have a Detroit date lined up for November 3rd at the Palace. Keep it on 89x for further ticket information. By the way, the Mars Volta will open up all the dates on the North American tour.
System Of A Down is hitting the road this summer for Ozzfest, but according to the band, once the tour is over they are going on hiatus. How long will it last? Who knows, but they have made it clear that they are not breaking up, they're just taking some time off, so relax. Read more about their plans here.
