A blogger (who allegedly dislikes Creed) has argued Creed is one of the most influential bands of the past 20 years. Read the article here. If nothing else, the article features some classically hysterical Stappy pics, so it's worth a click.

Muse recently "performed" on a television show in Italy. Apparently the band was informed before going on stage they would be lip synching.

Never mind, move along, the video was taken down by the band's record label...
Green Day's cd American Idiot has been transformed into a rock opera. American Idiot the musical is current enjoying a month long run at a theater in Berkeley, California. Here's a glimpse into the musical with footage from the production as well as some interview clips from Billie Joe Armstrong and others involved in bringing the musical to life.
Panic at the Disco's Brendon Urie has recorded an acoustic cover of Journey's classic, "Don't Stop Believing." You can hear it and download it here.
The White Stripes' tour documentary, Under Great White Northern Lights premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last week. Jack White himself showed up for a special question and answer session at the festival and treated fans to, well, a Kanye moment.

The film was shot during the band's unique 2007 tour--shows took place in non-conventional venues including a YMCA, bowling alley, & hospital, and eventually ended with a one-note show in Newfoundland.

Here's the video to the first single from Bernard Sumner's new project Bad Lieutenant.
New music from Smashing Pumpkins is on the way for free! Billy Corgan goes on to sort of confirm the information in the article* on the band's official website:

I did a small interview via email with Paste magazine today. I thought the article itself was very positive, but unfortunately the information in it is somewhat misleading about the release schedule of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'.

I have no plans to release 44 songs by the spring of 2010. Because my intention is to only put out music of the highest caliber, I will be only be recording about 4 songs at a time and then releasing them one by one shortly after their completion. 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' will be a new kind of album, an album you can hear as its being made. That process will unfold over the next few years.

*the linked version of the Paste article has been edited to fix the information Corgan found misleading
Jim Carroll died of a heart attack on September 11th at his home in Manhattan. He was 60 years old.
The Coldplay/Joe Satriani lawsuit has been "dismissed" by a British court. Apparently the parties have reached some sort of (undisclosed) settlement. Earlier in the year Satrini filed suit against Coldplay claiming the song "Viva La Vida" was a ripoff of Satriani's 2004 song, "If I Could Fly."
Leonard Cohen collapsed on stage while performing his song, "Bird on the Wire" in Spain. Cohen was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for suspected food poisoning. According to reports, Cohen had been experiencing stomach cramps before performing that evening. He's currently on the mend and is expected to make a full recovery.
Scott Weiland suffered a seizure while aboard a plane flying from Los Angeles to Miami recently. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at an airport in Dallas. According to reports, Weiland's manager says he's "doing great" now.
