Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory recently had half of his thyroid removed after doctors found nodules in the gland. According to Gilbert's tweet, no cancer was found:

Hey guys.Laying in my recovery room. 5:48 am. I'm ch ch chillin. They removed half my thyroid but no cancer. Thanks for the prayers love you

Gilbert is expected to rejoin the New Found Glory tour this coming Tuesday. Anthony from Bayside has been filling in for Gilbert over the last couple of days.

New Found Glory will be in town March 4th at the Royal Oak Music Theater playing their self titled cd from 2000 in its entirety. A special 10th anniversary edition of the cd dropped earlier this week.

Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory posted this official message on his blog:

Dearest NFG Family, Friends, and Fans…

Two weeks ago when I went to the Doctor with pneumonia.. they found some nodules in my thyroid , and one of them is a little bigger then a quarter. They did a biopsy and the report came back that there are some suspicious cells in the cyst. So due to the size and to be safe, Today at 2:45 I am having surgery and getting half of my thyroid removed. Immediately after removing it they will observe it and see if it looks like a cancer. If they find anything they will remove the rest of my thyroid. The odds are in my favor for it to be nothing which keeps me positive going in… I am only planning on missing the first three shows of this tour, and my good friend Anthony Raneri from the band BAYSIDE will be filling in for me until i make it back out. Thanks again for all the love and support and I hope to see you all super soon.

Love Always,

Chad Gilbert aka :@xchadballx,Captain Straight Edge, chad hulud etc.

Dannie Flesher, cofounder of WaxTrax Records died last Sunday at the age of 58. Click here for more details.
M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold has posted a statement about The Rev's (aka Jimmy Sullivan) untimely death on the band's official website:

I don’t know how to start this or know where to begin. First I would like to thank all the fans for their support through the passing of Jimmy. It has been comforting to see his fans, our fans, and everyone in general give their support. Jimmy was my best friend, as he was best friends with many other people including the members of Avenged Sevenfold. He was hands down the greatest person I have ever known. I told him I loved him everyday.

A biopic on Ian Dury, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, is in the works. Here's the trailer:

The Slayer/Megadeth tour has been postponed. Hang on to your tickets to the February 6th show scheduled for Cobo, the tour will likely be rescheduled shortly according to the following press release from Slayer:

"Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."

This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."
****Slayer/Megadeth date has been postponed due to Tom Araya's back surgery****
