Ah yes, Courtney Love's comments on Twitter once again landed her in some legal trouble. This time around Courtney is being sued by a lawyer who she had once hired. It generally doesn't end well when you're sued by a lawyer, so it'll be interesting to see how this one works out. Read the entire saga here. Oh, and Billboard, you might want to change the misspelling of "Cortney" before you get Ms. Love riled up. Just saying.

Courtney Love was interviewed by addiction website thefix.com. Check out the first part of the interview right here. The interview mainly discusses Love's drug and alcohol addictions, however at some points the interview gets a bit off track. Love discussed her lovelife and claimed she's looking for a "really rich boyfriend." She also revealed Hole's latest cd, Nobody's Daughter, was written at a spa while on the Atkins diet. She told the site, "I wrote pretty much the entire record in this spa on the Atkins diet. You try writing an album eating only bologna and eggs." You can read the first part of the interview here, part two will be posted on the site tomorrow.

The deluxe version of Arcade Fire's the Suburbs will be released August 2nd. The new version will contain a couple of new songs, including "Culture War" and "Speaking in Tongues" (featuring David Byrne) and you can check both songs out now below plus buy the songs on iTunes:

Arcade Fire - Culture War by MergeRecords

Arcade Fire - Speaking in Tongues (feat. David Byrne) by MergeRecords
The new cd from Friendy Fires is out today. Pala is the band's second cd and it shouldn't be a disappointment if you liked their first record. They continue down the 70's/80's inspired pop dance realm and somehow they make it sound fun and new. It's truly bizarre how on some of the songs on the cd, lead singer Ed MacFarlane can sound like Daryl Hall (yes, from Hall & Oates), then moments later he can sound like Dallas Green (City & Colour). It works, and it's cool. Check out the first track from the cd, "Live Those Days Tonight" and also the band's cover of Depeche Mode's "Strange Love."

The debut cd from Motopony was released today. You can check out a full stream of the band's self titled cd below.

The Vaccines performed on Letterman last night. If you missed it, check out the band playing "If You Wanna" below. The Vaccines will be in town opening for Arctic Monkeys at the Fillmore Thursday night, and next Tuesday they'll release their highly anticipated debut cd, What Did You Expect From the Vaccines?

Today is the first anniversary of the death of Slipknot's Paul Gray. Gray was found dead in a hotel room in Iowa May 24, 2010. Months later his death was officially ruled an accidental overdose. As for Slipknot, the band is about to play a handful of dates on the Sonisphere Festival next month. Corey Taylor has expressed doubt in recent interviews about Slipknot's future, however Joey Jordison is pretty adamant that the band will continue. Check out some comments Jordison made to the Artisan news service regarding Slipknot and Corey Taylor:

Greg Graffin from Bad Religion will be teaching at Cornell University. Graffin also had an exotic bird named after him. Here's the official press release from Epitaph Records:

Renowned singer/songwriter Greg Graffin of the immensely influential rock band Bad Religion has just finished a sold-out tour and in the coming months will be addressing a slightly quieter though no less rapt audience. Graffin has a second career as an esteemed author and academic. The venerated punk icon obtained a PhD in zoology from Cornell University, has served as a lecturer in life sciences and paleontology at UCLA and recently published a best selling science memoir entitled Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science and Bad Religion in a World Without God which was heralded by the Chicago Tribune as “A worldview eloquently expressed.”

In the coming months Graffin will shift his talents to the revered Ivy League institution of Cornell University where he will be teaching Evolution in the fall semester (August 24th to December 11th). "This is the first year of three that I am slated to help develop the course and lecture at Cornell,” Graffin explains. "I have a colleague who is a gifted geneticist, Richard Harrison, who will be co-teaching with me. I only have to lecture on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That leaves plenty of time to head overseas on the weekends!"

In additional news, Greg Graffin has been honored in the science world. In this month’s Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society in London, paleontologists including Dr. Jingmai O’Connor, have discovered an ancient bird fossil in the Gansu Province of north-western China, and have named this important find “Qiliania graffini” in honor of the singer. As O’Connor explains, “The species name is in honor of Dr. Gregory Graffin, PhD: paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, professor, rock star, and inspiration to numerous budding and established scientists around the world.”

Dr. Graffin responds, “I am so happy that they have given me the privilege of having an important fossil bird named in my honor. My love of birds now must pass to the Cretaceous and the wonderful finds from China that [the authors] are elucidating”

Catch Dr. Graffin on tour this summer in Europe before the fall semester begins.

I love Rob Zombie. I love his work and the way he thinks. Lately, Zombie has been answering questions submitted by fans on his blog recently. Please check out his blog to read all the Q & A so far, but I wanted to post one of the questions/answers here, because Zombie is spot on with his comments and advice:

Being such a successful musician and film maker, who do you feel was the most important contact you made to get you where you are today? and how lucky do you feel that you get to do two things you love?

I wish I could say there was one special contact that made all the difference, but life doesn't work that way. When I started I knew nothing about anything, I had no friends or relatives in the business of either movies or music. It was basically all struggle and hard work. Music was a long slow climb and the same goes for film. That's way I tell anyone looking for advice that you have to "do it because you have to -- and if you can't -- you would rather be dead". That is how I felt. Most of the time people think that I will give them some magic advise that will give them a short cut, there are no short cuts. I think shows like American Idol have people swayed into thinking that they can win some stupid contest and be a star! I love watching the contestants cry when they get the boot wailing about their dreams. FUCK YOU!

Here is a painful true fact of life, NO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOUR DREAM! That is why YOU have to give a fuck until it hurts.

I feel very happy to be where I am, but another truth is that, "the harder I work, the luckier I get." I know it sounds harsh but really that is just the reality of it all.
Junior Boys will release a new cd, It's All True, on June 14th, plus will bring their live show to the Pike Room in Pontiac on June 25th. Check out their new song, "Banana Ripple" below or visit the official Junior Boys website here.

Enjoy some classic Cabaret Voltaire!

If you were ever into the shoegaze music scene back in the early 1990's, you're probably familiar with the band Ride and their legendary label Creation Records. A documentary about the label, Upside Down: Story of Creation Records, was just released in the U.K, and the label's founder, Alan McGee, has been doing a lot of publicity for the release. He recently wrote a piece about Ride for Rhino Records, who released a 20th anniversary edition of Ride's classic cd, Nowhere. Check out the piece, "Alan McGee on Ride" here. What's interesting is McGee declares Ride's classic song, "Leave Them All Behind" and "D'You Know What I Mean" by Oasis to conceptually be the same song. Check out both songs below and see what you think. Unfortunately the version of "Leave Them All Behind" is an edit of the powerful 8 minute album version, but hopefully you'll get the picture.

If you're interested in Upside Down: Story of Creation Records, it will be released on import in North America on May 17th, as will the double disc soundtrack. Check out the soundtrack's impressive tracklisting here.

One last tidbit for Ride fans. Ride's Mark Gardener and Andy Bell reviewed the band's entire catalog here.

David Gahan and Warped Tour organizer Kevin Lyman were honored last night for several years of sobriety at the 7th annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert. The annual concert raises money for MusiCares, which provides musicians access to addiction recovery. Gahan, introduced by Steven Tyler, spoke at the event, then later performed a set of covers. Martin Gore joined Gahan onstage to perform the Depeche Mode classic, "Personal Jesus." Jane's Addiction and Paramore also performed live sets. Read more about the event here, and watch video from last night below:

"Love Will Tear Us Apart"  (Joy Division cover)

"I Feel You"

"Low" (Mark Lanegan cover)

"Cracked Actor" (David Bowie cover)

Mike Einziger from Incubus wrote part of the score for the Ozzy Osbourne documentary, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, which premiered recently at the Tribeca Film Festival. Though the film featured a lot of Ozzy's rocking music, producers wanted to capture the human/softer side of Ozzy and felt Einziger would do an excellent job. Read more about Einziger's involvement in the project here. So far there isn't a release date set for the documentary, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the film plus part of the Q & A from the film premiere at Tribeca.

Deftones were interviewed recently in Toronto and explain each track on Diamond Eyes. Watch below:

An Elliott Smith documentary is set to debut at a film festival in Los Angeles soon. Read an interview with the film's director, Gil Reyes here. Interestingly, Smith's music does not appear in the documentary. His family did not grant permission for the music to be used because the film included Smith's girlfriend, Jennifer Chiba. Chiba was involved in the open investigation into Smith's death which was initially reported as suicide and later questions were raised about possible homicide. Read more about the circumstances surrounding Smith's death here, and here's the autopsy report from the Smoking Gun.

Check out some previously unreleased songs from Smith on TwentyFourBit.com. And enjoy a few songs below:

This video is pretty sad: teenagers on the street in New York were asked about the Beatles, and of course no one knew who they were. Watch the video and cringe. Uh, no, George Michael was not in the Beatles. Now get off my lawn.
