And I don't care what anyone says, the cd's closer, "Beth/Rest" may sound 80's, but it's amazingly cool!

The Chain Gang of 1974 released the debut cd titled Wayward Fire this past week. If you're not familiar with this band, it's pretty much the brainchild of Kamtin Mohager who hails from Denver. Musically it's chock full of synth/electronic dance beats in an 80's style. Mohager has never shied away from talking about his influences, and as you would guess from listening to the music, he LOVES the 80's. Many of the songs on Wayward Fire remind me of a dancier Tears For Fears, yet, it's not a ripoff or anything. It's pretty awesome that even the cd's album artwork looks pretty 80's (it kind of looks like he's wearing big socks over the bottom of his pants). At any rate, the music is cool and you should check out the cd. Thumbs up.

Noel Gallagher is getting married to his long time girlfriend Sara MacDonald today. As expected, Liam Gallagher will not be attending the gala since he's stateside playing a few gigs with Beady Eye. Liam, however, alleges that he was not even invited to the wedding.

If you're a fan of Oasis, Beady Eye or the Gallagher brothers, why not check out a pretty lengthy interview with Beady Eye in the Chicago Sun Times here. Liam discussed Oasis, the infamous fight that split the band, and the future. I particularly enjoyed the comments Liam made about Oprah: "what's this about Oprah retiring? She needs to stay on it. She needs the (vitamin) B-12."

And of course, we wish Noel Gallagher the best on his impending nuptials.

Apple registered a patent for infrared technology that attempts to shut off your iPhone camera at concerts. According to this article, here's how the technology would likely work: a band/label/venue could position infrared lights on a venue's stage, the iPhone would receive the infrared signal and disable the camera/video recorder. The phone part of the iPhone would still work (so you can call, text, etc) but you wouldn't be able to take pictures or shoot video. And if it sounds like crazy technology, don't forget that Facebook created technology that recognizes faces. So yeah, it could happen.

Now, why would Apple create this technology? It's no secret that major labels are kind of annoyed that concert footage gets posted on YouTube right after a show is over. Labels want to control (stop) it, but as of yet they haven't been able to. Interestingly enough Apple just negotiated a deal with all the major labels for their iCloud (streaming/locker) service. Could this patent be a concession Apple made when negotiating? Who knows, we don't even know if this technology will come to pass. Regardless, the patent has been filed. And if it sounds like crazy technology, don't forget that Facebook created technology that recognizes faces. So yeah, it could happen, but will it? Stay tuned.
Apparently the Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the Commercial Felony Streaming Act and now the full Senate will consider this. The Act appears to be targeting sites that stream films, however music sites and music blogs that stream illegally won't be immune if the act passes.

Noel Gallagher is getting ready to marry his long time girlfriend Sara MacDonald this Saturday. Noel recently revealed that he would like brother Liam to attend. I've been listening to a lot of Depeche Mode lately. Last week I checked out the band's new remix collection, Remixes 2 81-11. On disc #3 of the set is Royksopp's remix of the song "Puppets" and when I heard it I had forgotten how much I loved that song. I hunted down the original version of "Puppets" on the band's debut cd Speak & Spell and I've been listening to that cd over the past couple of days. The cd indeed sounds dated--it came out in 1981 and featured songwriting by Vince Clarke (who left the band after the cd's release to start up Yaz with Alison Moyet).

I thought it would be fun to post the band's official video for their debut single, "Dreaming of Me" so I scoured YouTube to find it. I didn't find it, but I did stumble upon the gem I posted below. It's live footage of Depeche Mode performing "Dreaming of Me" circa 1981. The audio isn't the best, but it's sooooooo awesome to see the young whippersnappers perform. Oh, and the reel to reel player behind David Gahan is a nice touch.

Sweden's the Radio Dept will reissue their 2003 debut Lesser Matters on vinyl on June 21st. Vinylphiles, this release is brilliant! And if you're not into vinyl, why not check out the digital or cd version of the cd.
Red Hot Chili Peppers will drop the new cd, I'm With You, on August 30th. The first single, "the Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" will be out next month. You can check out the names of all the other songs on I'm With You here.
A big portion of Arcade Fire's weekend performance at Bonnaroo has been captured and posted here. Check out "Keep the Car Running" and "the Suburbs" below:

Evanescence will return with a new cd in the fall. The still untitled is set to drop October 4th. Amy Lee has also announced that guitarist Troy McLawhorn is once again back with the band. McLawhorn left Evanescence in 2008, and was Seether's guitarist until he departed with the band this past March.
Arcade Fire visited the soundopinions.org studio in Chicago last week and played a rare acoustic session. On Friday, you'll be able to check out the entire acoustic session right here. Don't forget that Arcade Fire will reissue their Grammy winning cd, the Suburbs, with extra tracks and a bonus DVD on August 2nd. The new version will be called the Suburbs Deluxe, and you can pre-order it now, right here.
It looks like the streaming music service Spotify is going to launch in the United States. The company has been operating overseas for a couple of years and now it appears to be coming our way. Spotify is different from Amazon's cloud and the soon-to-launch Apple service (iCloud) because with Spotify you get to stream music you don't already own. Reportedly Spotify has not yet struck deals with all the major label, but allegedly are in talks with all the labels. Read all about it here.
