Darius Minwalla, drummer of the Posies died at his home in Vancouver, BC on May 20th. The band confirmed the news on their website with the following statement:

"We cannot put off this announcement, as much as we wish to: our dear friend and drummer for the last 14 years, Darius Minwalla, died yesterday. Causes yet unknown. He was at home. He was loved very much by many people; we’re still struggling to cope with the loss. I was dealing with it yesterday, hoping the news was some kind of cruel prank, but alas, no. We love you, buddy."

Minwalla was 39 years old.

UPDATE: 6/6/15:

Minwalla had been scheduled to hit the road with Hugh Cornwell (former leader/founder of the Stranglers). Cornwell was interviewed by the mag the Stranger and had some wonderful things to say about Minwalla.

"I'll tell you what: He really included people. This became clear to me when we went around America touring, because he really knew a lot of people. He had great friends, and he wanted me to know them, and them to know me. He brought people together. That's a really, really lovely quality. Not everybody has it...I'm gonna dedicate a song to him wherever we go. When we hit the stage, I'm gonna be playing my heart out for him. He's not forgotten."

The full album is streaming ahead of its release -- fans in the U.S. can stream the album here, fans outside the U.S. can stream here. Pre-order Saturns Pattern through iTunes or Amazon -- the record is available as a digital album download, CD, CD/DVD, LP, and limited edition boxset containing the CD, DVD, & vinyl LP.

Watch some video about the making of Saturns Pattern plus watch Weller perform the title track for BBC 2 below:

Weller recently was interviewed by Drowned In Sound and discussed his solo record, admiration of Damon Albarn's recording philosophy, and going to see classic bands live.  He also slams the door (once again) on any possibility of a Jam reunion:

"It seems really strange to me that people think we would consider it, after such a long time. I don’t look back and think: ‘Oh, those days were great’ and get misty eyed about the Seventies or the Eighties; I couldn’t give a fuck about it really."

Read the full feature over at Drowned In Sound.

Meanwhile a coffee table book about the Jam titled Growing Up With...The Jam will be released later this year through Pledge Music. The book features previously unseen photos, along with memories/tributes from musicians and other notable figures inspired by the Jam. Additionally, the the foreword was written by all three members of the legendary band. The standard and limited edition of Growing Up With...The Jam is available to pre-order here.

Prior to the release of Noel Gallagher's first solo album in 2011, Gallagher held a press conference to announce details. During the event, Gallagher mentioned that he'd be releasing a proper solo album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, as well as another record; a trippy, experimental sounding record he'd recorded with Amorphous Androgynous.  Gallagher described the second album as, "fucking far out...it's vaudeville, some of it's space jazz, krautrock, some of it's soul, some of it's funk...it's the furthest out I've ever been, that's for sure."   Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds went on to be released in November of that year, however his collaboration with AA never got released (other than the "Dream On" b-side "Shoot A Hole In The Sun" which saw light of day in 2012). UK paper The Guardian sought to find out more about what went down between Gallagher and the spacey psychedelic remix outfit -- and they got answers, well, at least Amorphous Androgynous' side of the story.

Garry Cobain of AA spoke in detail to the Guardian about what went down -- Cobain revealed that he began discussing working on Gallagher's solo album before Oasis split in 2009 (a revelation that took Liam Gallagher by surprise). As Cobain tells it, he was thrilled to work with Gallagher and was expecting creatively proggy, psychedelic, experimental sessions to follow, but unfortunately he claims that was not the case.  He reveals though Gallagher really loves proggy psychedelic music, he just wasn't able to let himself go wild enough to write experimental, liberating music. Gallagher nor AA were happy with the mixes they recorded and even though they attempted to record again, the magic just wasn't there. Cobain concluded the failure of the collaboration was due to Gallagher ultimately being "too afraid to be weird."

Read the full interview with Cobain here.

Interestingly enough, two backing tracks Amorphous Androgynous created during those scrapped sessions -- the critically acclaimed song "The Right Stuff" and "The Mexican" -- made it onto Gallagher's new solo album Chasing Yesterday.

Iggy Pop appeared on Anthony Bourdain's tv program Parts Unknown last Sunday to talk food, rock & roll, and Miami (Iggy currently lives in Miami). Bourdain revealed in a blog posting that he's a huge fan of the Stooges and was quite nervous to meet the legend. Bourdain writes:

"Of all the people I’ve met, I’ve never been more intimidated, more anxious, more star-struck than when I met Iggy Pop."

Though it took Bourdain three days to work up the nerve to approach Iggy for an interview, the conversation (and subsequent interview for Parts Unknown) was a positive one.  Bourdain gushed over meeting Iggy on his blog, and ended the piece with a heartfelt plea for viewers to listen to the Stooges!

"As a final note, I encourage anyone reading this to buy, first, the STOOGES’ classic, FUN HOUSE, which functions as a reminder of what rock and roll should be about — has always been about: sex, aggression, rage, self-hatred, frustration, heartbreak, love, and the occasional burst of pleasure. Then listen to the song PENETRATION, on their album RAW POWER, and feel your face melt right off your skull."
