New Order's classic and vastly underrated 1986 album Brotherhood was released 30 years ago today. The album's place in history is commonly overshadowed due to it being sandwiched between two other phenomenal and critically acclaimed albums -- 1985's Low-Life and 1989's Ibiza masterpiece Technique. If Brotherhood manages to get any glory at all, it's usually due to the massive popularity of breakthrough single "Bizarre Love Triangle." While BLT is obviously an iconic song, there are so many other magical and shining moments on Brotherhood! Brotherhood deserves acclaim not only for its massive dancefloor anthem, but for so much more -- it's an album of incredible lyrics, driving (and sometimes spacey) beats, and it boasts one of the best closing tracks ("Every Little Counts") in history.

Spend some time and give some love to New Order's fantastic fourth album.

The Mission UK return with a new album Another Fall From Grace on September 30th. The record was produced by Wayne Hussey and features guest vocals from Martin Gore, Gary Numan, and Ville Valo among others. According to Hussey, the record is similar to his classic work and has a dark 1985 vibe:

"For me, this new Mission album is the long lost missing link between the Sisters Of Mercy’s First & Last & Always and The Mission’s God’s Own Medicine, both albums of course that I was heavily involved in making. I set out this time with the intention of making an album that sounds like 1985."

He also reveals the torment and turmoil he went through while creating the record:

"This is a dark album although I didn’t set out with that intention, it’s just the way things unfolded. I know I did go a little crazy and even a little paranoid during the recording of this album, certainly my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well being all suffered during the course of it...So much of this was done in isolation – from the world, from my family, from my friends, and even from my band mates. I can’t say it’s an album I enjoyed making but it is an album I needed to make."

Another Fall From Grace will be released on CD, 180 gm vinyl, and digital download. A limited edition deluxe double CD & DVD is also available while supplies last. Check out the options and pre-order here.

Stream Another Fall From Grace in full ahead of its release right now on Soundcloud.  Two singles from the album are also available to stream below.

Smart Studios, located in Madison, Wisconsin and established in 1983 by Butch Vig and Steve Marker, was a crucial recording destination (and home) for noisy independent bands in the 80's & 90's.  Legions of bands recorded there over the years -- Killdozer, Tad, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, L7, Archers of Loaf, Poster Children, Laughing Hyenas, Garbage, and SO many more. The studio and the bands that recorded there had a major impact on the music scene in the Midwest, as well as the alternative music scene in the U.S. in the '80s and '90s.

A feature length film about the legendary and influential studio directed by Wendy Schneider and executive produced by Butch Vig, tells the fascinating history of Smart Studios through archival footage and interviews with artists who recorded there including Shirley Manson, Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, Donita Sparks, Chris Walla and Dave Grohl.

The Smart Studios Story premiered at South By Southwest to rave reviews.  The documentary was later screened in just a handful of cities in the spring, but now a much larger screening tour has been announced for music fans nationwide which includes an October 7th screening at El Club in Detroit (info here).

As previously reported, the official (and juicy looking) Oasis documentary Supersonic is set to premiere in the UK and Ireland on October 2nd, with a DVD/Blu-Ray release to follow on October 31st. Details have now been announced for the U.S. premiere -- fans will be able to enjoy the full cinematic Supersonic experience at participating theaters for one night only, October 26th. A list of participating theaters, which includes three theaters in Michigan, is available to view on the film's official website

Participating theaters in Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI @ Michigan Theatre
Grand Rapids, MI @ Celebration Cinema Woodland
Kalamazoo, MI @ Alamo Drafthouse
Royal Oak, MI @ Main Art Theatre

Note: additional theaters and showtimes will be added in the coming weeks.

Supersonic is a 122 minute glimpse into Oasis' rise to mega stardom packed with spectacular archival footage and commentary/narration by the band. Director Mat Whitecross had the arduous task of trying to figure out how to get Liam and Noel Gallagher to get together and tell him their story. As it turns out, Whitecross reveals he had to interview the Brothers Gallagher separately, then edit the footage to make it appear as if Liam and Noel were in the same room. Though that might sound cringeworthy, it seems like Whitecross pulled it off -- check out the amazing trailer for Supersonic below:

Meanwhile, Oasis pushed back the release date for Be Here Now - Chasing The Sun: 1993 - 1997 one week to October 14th. The release is available to pre-order here.

Depeche Mode have been teasing an announcement on social media for a few days and today they've finally revealed the goods! On November 11th, the band will release Depeche Mode Video Singles Collection -- their first ever career-spanning video anthology. The 3 DVD set includes over 4 hours of videos from 1983 through 2013 -- including 55 newly restored original videos and 4 alternate takes -- plus two (additional) hours of band commentary!

From the official press release:

"Videos have always played an essential part in how we wanted to present Depeche Mode’s music to the world,” agreed the members of the band. “It’s been amazing to go back and relive all the experiences and memories these videos evoke after all these years. It’s incredible to have all our videos finally together in one place and we’re hoping our fans enjoy this journey through time as much as we did."

If that's not enough Depeche Mode awesomeness -- according to the press release, this collection is the first in a series of "band-approved retrospective projects examining Depeche Mode’s extraordinary career and effect on pop culture," which means MUCH MORE Depeche Mode goodness is on the way in the future!

Pre-order info for Depeche Mode Video Singles Collection will be announced shortly. For now, view the massive list of videos (and directors) included in the set below.

By the way, Depeche Mode have been busy in the recording studio working on studio album number fourteen. Details on that are expected soon.

Since Sonic Youth's disbandment, Kim Gordon has been working on several musical projects, including Body/Head and Glitterbust, plus she released her memoir Girl In A Band last year. Today she's released her first ever solo single "Murdered Out," which Gordon revealed was inspired by lowrider car culture:

"When I moved back to LA, I noticed more and more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels. This was something I had occasionally seen in the past, part of lowrider car culture. A reclaiming of a corporate symbol of American success, The Car, from an outsider’s point of view. A statement-making rejection of the shiny brand new look, the idea of a new start, the promise of power, and the freedom on the open road. Like an option on a voting ballot, 'none of the above.'"

"Murdered Out" was produced by Justin Raisen and features Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint on drums. Stream below and head over to Matador to purchase/download a copy.

Third Man Records shared a surprise video for the newly released White Stripes song "City Lights" today. Director Michel Gondry, who has collaborated with the White Stripes several times over the years, took it upon himself to put the video together without telling anyone. He presented the finished piece to Jack White, who loved it and decided to make it the song's official video. Check it out below:

"City Lights" was originally intended to be released on Get Behind Me Satan, however the song was scrapped and never finished. White retooled and finished the song recently and is one of the highlights on White's new collection Acoustic Recordings 1998 - 2016. The album was released on Friday and is available online and at fine record stores everywhere.

The official Oasis documentary Supersonic premieres next month.

Supersonic premieres in UK & Irish cinemas with a live satellite event October 2nd and will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, & digital download October 31st. So far plans have not been announced for a North American premiere.

Meanwhile, Oasis fans have another major release to look forward to next month -- the last installment in the Chasing The Sun series. Be Here Now - Chasing The Sun: 1993 - 1997 will be released on October 7th and includes the original remastered material, rare and unreleased tracks, and the crown jewel -- the legendary Mustique Demos (Be Here Now demos) that Noel Gallagher famously recorded in the Caribbean island in 1996. Must see German TV: On April 16th, 1984 Depeche Mode and New Order appeared on the weekly television program Musik Convoy. At that point, Depeche Mode were a few months away from releasing Some Great Reward; New Order had just released "Thieves Like Us" as a single. Both bands had enjoyed some commercial success in Germany but were still on the cusp of becoming huge. Despite being a bit uncomfortable to watch at times (Depeche Mode's performance was clearly lip-synched; New Order's was live), it's a pretty fabulous walk down memory lane. Enjoy below via Electronic Beats.

Pixies return with a new album titled Head Carrier on September 30th. To date they've issued two pretty cool songs from the album -- "Um Chagga Lagga" and "Talent," and today they've premiered the third track, "Tenement Song," which continues to deliver Pixies greatness. Watch the animated video for "Tenement Song" below:

One of the highlights of Head Carrier promises to be "All I Think About Now." Black Francis revealed to Rolling Stone that the song is a thank you letter to former Pixies bassist Kim Deal. He said the idea came from the band's current bassist Paz Lenchantin:

"She said, "I want you to write a song about Kim, kind of like a thank-you letter. That kind of tone." That's what I did. She sang it great and I'm very proud of our collaboration...when you look back fondly in a poignant kind of way, you have a lot of ups and downs mixed together. I guess that's what it's about. It's about regret. It's about good memories. It's about bad memories."

Francis also reveals that he's come to terms with Deal's departure and seems to hold no grudges against her:

"If someone isn't motivated to be there and is not enjoying it or just wants to be doing something else with their life, it gets difficult. I can imagine if Kim wanted to do other things with her life and here we are, the phone's ringing again, another tour, another thing to do, it starts to feel like a drag. I get it. I don't have a problem with it. I totally understand."
