Depeche Mode's countdown to October 23rd continues over on their official website.  Last week the band confirmed a press conference would take place at 1:30 pm (local time) and will stream live on the net.  Today the band announced via Facebook they're going to be answering fan questions during the event!

"Depeche Mode will be in Paris on October 23rd for a press conference and would like everyone to have the opportunity to be a part of the experience. Have a question for them? Create a YouTube video and include the tag: AskDepecheMode by Wednesday. Your video featuring your questions could be selected, presented and answered by Depeche Mode at the conference."

Put your video together and make plans to watch the press conference on October 23rd! While you're waiting for that, check out a new remix of the Depeche Mode 1984 classic "Somebody."

Update: watch some of the fan-filmed questions for Depeche Mode!

Trent Reznor recently raised eyebrows when he announced How to destroy angels had signed a record deal with Columbia (Reznor has been releasing music independently since his bitter departure from TVT/Interscope.)  On Sunday, Reznor explained his decision to return to the majors while speaking about the music business in Los Angeles, revealing he wanted to get the music out to a wider audience (not just his core fans who already know about him.) Video of Reznor's comments are posted below (via AntiQuiet).  Bonus: David Byrne was also on the panel (promoting How Music Works) and is featured in the video:

Meanwhile David Byrne and St. Vincent played the Talking Heads' classic "Burning Down The House" together October 13th at the Greek Theater. Watch the awesomeness below:

And here's video of David Byrne performing "That's The Way I Like It" along with Arcade Fire's Win Butler at the Pop vs Jock charity basketball event in Montreal a couple of weeks ago

Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie are currently on the road together for the Twins Of Evil tour. At yesterday's Detroit area stop at DTE, it became apparent the two aren't exactly getting along.  Marilyn Manson performed first and accused Zombie of cutting his set short, telling the crowd he was going to kick Zombie's ass.  Zombie returned the volley during his set with a cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out."  During the song he screamed "suck it, f**king Marilyn Manson," and ended it with a "f**k you, motherf**ker!"  Watch the drama unfold below. NSFW video.

The co-headline Twins of Evil tour has just begun, so stay tuned for more drama!  Read more about the DTE drama here.  Pictures from Friday's show are posted here.

Update: Rob Zombie posted the following comments about the drama on Facebook around noon today:

As stupid as this all is, I feel I must clear things up a little better. First off, I want to thank all the fans who came out in the freezing cold in Detroit last night. It was a total blast as always.

Unfortunately things turned ugly backstage. Why? I don't know, but for some reason our touring partner decided to end his set by blaming me for something that I had nothing to do with and screaming he was going to "kick Rob Zombie's ass as soon as he got off stage."

Go figure. I was backstage hanging, watching the show thinking "hey this is gonna be a great night", when suddenly he starts screaming threats. So strange. I don't get it. Christ, I've known some of his crew for 20 fucking years and some of his crew used work for me. It's all good. No one would fuck with someone's show. It is ridiculous.

Well, of course I felt the need to respond to the " kick my ass remark". Who wouldn't? Although I wish I had kept it backstage and kept the fans out of it. It is all 4rd grade fight after school nonsense of which I have never dealt with on tour before. Co-headlining tours always go smooth because everything is cut 50/50 and I mean everything. No one fucks with anyone's show. It is even fucking Steven.

I've done it co-headlining tours many times before and have had no troubles. Not with Pantera, Slayer, Alice Cooper, Korn, Megadeth or anyone ever. So I didn't expect any troubles on this. It seemed like a great idea at the time.

But shit happens. Anyway, sorry to the fans who had to dealt with the embarrassing stupidity of it all. We are all there for the same reasons to give you the best show ever… that's it.

Earlier today The Smiths' drummer Mike Joyce made a couple of comments about Morrissey on Twitter, then posted a link to a Smiths' concert filmed in 1985.  The concert was shot May 18th, 1985 at Paseo De Camoens in Madrid and contains Spanish subtitles to the song lyrics.  Watch the full show (complete with three separate encores!) below.

Setlist:

01. William It Was Really Nothing
02. Nowhere Fast
03. I Want The One I Can't Have
04. What She Said
05. How Soon Is Now?
06. Handsome Devil

11. Hand In Glove
12. Still Ill
13. Meat Is Murder

Mike Joyce also commented briefly about the recent Smiths reunion rumors on his radio show.  A recap of his comments are posted below:

"...I think you've seen a quote from Johnny Marr, Johnny's manager, and if you haven't then it was just saying that Johnny's obviously back with the Healers.  The Healers are back and biting and he's out working with them, so it's not going to happen I don't think in the near future.  And then I saw something from Morrissey's publicist saying that the Smiths will never ever ever ever ever reunite.

"If Johnny says he's gonna be doing work with The Healers and Morrissey says it's not gonna happen, then I think I'd probably take that it's not.  If it does, it does, and if it doesn't, it doesn't, and it's as simple as that, and I think going on Twitter and Facebook and social media isn't the way to do it...as soon as you've got the ticket in your hand it's going to happen, and if you don't, it pretty much isn't."

Listen to the October 5th archive with Joyce's full statement here (he made the comments made near the beginning of the show right after playing two Smiths songs.)

Alison Moyet performed three Rare & Obscured shows London this week at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.  Take a listen to Moyet's performance of the classic French song "La Chanson Des Vieux Amants" (a studio version was released on her 2004 album Voice.)  The video is shot from far away, but the audio is fantastic!

Noel Gallagher is preparing to release his first live DVD International Magic Live at the O2 next week.  The Seattle Weekly published an interview with Gallagher in advance of the release and true to style, Gallagher offered entertaining commentary on a variety of subjects.

On not wanting to be interesting:

"Do you know what the enemy of music is? Interesting. Elvis wasn't interesting. The Sex Pistols weren't interesting. The Beatles weren't interesting. They had something that was fucking real and dealt with emotion. Do you know who's interesting? Bjork. Interesting is fucking ridiculous. It annoys me."

On recording long songs:

"The more drugs I took, the longer the songs got. They reached their crescendo on Be Here Now, where every song is seven and a half minutes long...If you can get a song in under three and a half minutes, you're doing pretty well."

On releasing his own music independently:

"I don't have a record company. I front all this myself...I'm in charge of everything. Every single thing is paid for by me and it stands and falls by all my decisions."

Morrissey played a 90 minute set at Radio City Music Hall last night. The band wore 'Killjoy' shirts and of course, Moz ripped off his own shirt during "Let Me Kiss You." An 11 year old Morrissey fan named Kyle, who later ran up on stage and hugged Moz, was the one who wound up with the shirt!  Awesome!

Watch fan filmed video of the show and check out the set list (courtesy of You Tube user Sammy Sossa). Morrissey has the night off tonight and returns to the stage for a two-night stand at Terminal 5 in NYC on Friday.

Blondie played a live You Tube Presents session earlier today. The band played six songs, then answered questions from the audience. Watch the archive of the show and stream/download three new tracks: "Bride Of Infinity," "Dead Air," and "Rock On" below.

Morrissey appeared on the Colbert Report for a short interview and performance of "People Are The Same Everywhere." Though Morrissey appeared to not be aware of Colbert's schtick, he endured it and even stuck around to perform a web exclusive of "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris." Watch all the footage below.  The official videos may be blocked in areas outside the U.S., so another set of videos (minus the web-exclusive performance) courtesy of the Audio Perv are also posted below, along with another set of links to the audio (though odds are the unofficial videos will be pulled later.)

Peter Hook is on a promo tour for his newly released memoir Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division. Though the book is about Joy Division, the topic of New Order has been discussed a lot during the interviews - Hooky left New Order in 2006 and is embroiled in a legal battle with the remaining members of the band over the New Order name. Two different interview with Hook are discussed below.

In British GQ's interview, Hook talked about Joy Division, his bass playing style, playing New Order albums in full next year, and revealed he's already started work on a New Order memoir. He did manage to say a few nice things about Bernard Sumner:

"He is a really hard worker, a total perfectionist, which can be infuriating, but ultimately he'll work very hard...So I've got nothing but admiration for what he does, but I might not agree with the way he does it, or his ambitions for it, but I'm very, very in awe of his work ethic."

Hooky admitted his departure from New Order wasn't handled in the best possible way:

"From my mind, looking on, I think Bernard was really, really hurt that I decided to stop working with him. I handled it badly..."

The legal bills Hook has incurred fighting with New Order are astronomical:

"It's pathetic. I wish we could have a boxing match or toss a coin and just get it over with...But we've chosen this way instead. As Pete Saville said to me last night, "I wish there was a grown-up." But there isn't."

Read the full GQ interview with Peter Hook here, plus read GQ's feature on Bernard Sumner titled Icon: Bernard Sumner here.

During Peter Hook's video interview with News Talk TV he told more Joy Division stories: Joy Division living with their parents while in the midst of the band's career, Ian Curtis' death and regrouping only days after to form New Order, and singing Curtis' lyrics now that he's playing Joy Division records on tour. Of course, the topic of New Order and the lawsuit (aka "the war with the others") came up at the very end of the interview, and this was Hook's response:

"I'm afraid we're both firmly trenched in. They're lobbing grenades, legal very expensive legal grenades at each other and unfortunate oh man, it breaks my heart every day, it really does, and I do wish to be able to get on with our lives happily would be fantastic, but not at the moment I'm afraid."

Donahue, always one to cover hard-hitting topics, aired a show on punk back in 1984. Archival video from the show has appeared on You Tube and is posted below. Though the video isn't super high quality, it's watchable, and the audio is clear. Watch the audience get UP IN ARMS about punks, punk outfits, and violent punk concerts. During the program Donahue (of course) brought on a psychologist and a representative from an organization called Parents with Punkers while Rolling Stone's Charles Young (who worked at Musician at the time) attempted to explain/defend punk to some of the clueless folk in the audience.

Bonus: Al Jourgensen from Ministry is one of the punks on stage - he's sitting on the right side onstage rocking a pink/purple outfit. Al is introduced in part 1, doesn't say much in parts 2 & 3, and was asked a question from the audience about "dressing straight" near the end of part 4.

Short clip of Al from the first segment:

Earlier this year Mark Gardener, Simon Welford, and Aziz Ibrahim announced a new music/art collaborative project called Hush Delirium.  Since then, many other great musicians have also joined  the project - including Anton Newcombe, Adam Franklin, Dean Garcia, and A*Star.  A live gig had been booked for Copenhagen, but unfortunately the event has been canceled.  But some very exciting news has been unveiled by the project today...

Later this week Hush Delirium are going to be unveiling new music.  According to a tweet sent out earlier today, the music will come in the form of a 9 track 'Taster' LP which will be given away as a FREE download! If you haven't yet, be sure to check out Hush Delirium on Twitter or Facebook for updates.  I'll post updated info here once it becomes available.

To find out more about Hush Delirium read an interview with Simon Welford here.  You can also check out previous stories I've posted on Hush Delirium and Mark Gardener below.  Gardener fans should also check out his single with Robin Guthrie, "The Places We Go" and his collaboration with Hopewell "Needle In The Camel's Eye."

Trent Reznor debuted a new song from How to destroy angels on BBC Radio 1 today. The track "Keep It Together" serves as the first single from the six-song ep An Omen, which arrives November 13th.  Stream "Keep It Together" below and download it for free here. A higher quality digital download is available to purchase on iTunes and Amazon

During the Radio One broadcast, Zane Lowe did a short interview with Trent Reznor. The audio archive is available here (forward in to ~ 46 minutes in). The gist of what Reznor said is posted below:

Zane Lowe asked about working on How to destroy angels:

Trent: Yeah, we've been working on this kind of in the shadows throughout the Social Network and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo since the core people are kind of all in the same area. We've just been chipping away at this thing and it's been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into. It doesn't fit the other containers. It's been fun.

Lowe asked why just an ep and not a full album?

Trent: A lot of what's on the EP or part of what's on the EP is taken from a full length record that's 98% finished. That's scheduled for a firm release at the beginning of next year. We've just been playing around with the way people consume music and listen to it and how big the chunks are, but I think coming off of releasing the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack..it clocked in at two hours...let's do something more manageable, digestible in little bits.

Lowe played "Keep It Together" then after premiering the song discussed how he likes the heavy elements but it's not too "overcooked"

Trent: That's the experiment's intention: restraint and silence and space. Things that weren't fully explored in Nine Inch Nails. It's been fun to really dabble in it.

Lowe asked about if this is the happiest time of his life (being a father, married, having his own studio, calling his own shots, etc)

Trent: It feels pretty good you know, I've really the last few years been able to try to start getting to the list that's been growing over the years of things I said I wanted to do but never got around to doing because of my full time job. And for the things that people have seen like the filmwork, there's been a handful of things that failed, that's part of the process of trying things - the musical and non- musical that sometimes don't work out but it's what feels good about it is, I'm finally getting to those challenges and it's an interesting time.

The interview ended with Trent saying "there's a lot going on here, all will be revealed soon."

Again the audio archive is here (scroll in to ~ 46 minutes in).
As previously reported, on Friday Depeche Mode launched a countdown on their official site which counts down to October 23rd. Rumors have been flying for some time about an October 23rd press conference in Paris, and now it appears the rumors have been confirmed!  Depeche Mode's management issued a statement today revealing a press conference will be held October 23rd in Paris at 1:30 pm local time (7:30 am ET) and it will be webcast live on the band's official site.  Depeche Mode's management says the band will be making an "exciting announcement," which is highly rumored to be details on their new album and 2013 world tour.  Stay tuned...now it's just a question of time! :)

A few months ago, ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead announced he formed a new band called Parlour Flames.  On Saturday night, Parlour Flames played their first show at the Royal Pavilion Tavern in Brighton, U.K.  Unfortunately, video from the gig hasn't surfaced, though you can check out an interview with Bonehead over at The Argus.  In the interview Bonehead talked a bit about his days in Oasis, revealing he has no regrets about leaving the band in 1999:

“I’ve no regrets. It was a bit weird after I left and the band got Andy [Bell] and Gem [Archer]"

Bonehead said he's still good friends with Liam Gallagher and he went to Beady Eye's debut gig in Glasgow.  The two also recently hung out at a recent Stone Roses' gig.  As for Parlour Flames, Bonehead reports a lot of songs have been written for the band's debut, though he didn't offer up any concrete release details.
