Peter Hook & Stephen Morris call for Ian Curtis memorial

Ex-Joy Division members Peter Hook and Stephen Morris may be on opposite ends of the New Order battle, but there's one thing they agree on - Macclesfield, the birthplace of Ian Curtis, isn't doing enough to honor the late singer. Last week Hook told the Macclesfield Express he's surprised more isn't done to honor Curtis and suggested a statue of Curtis should be erected in the town center:

"It’s always struck me that Macclesfield don’t do much to celebrate one of its most famous sons...What about an Ian Curtis statue with him dancing away in the town centre?"

In today's Macclesfield Express, Stephen Morris agrees Curtis isn't honored enough, but thinks a dancing statue isn't the best idea.

"I don’t like the idea of seeing Ian like that. I also believe Ian would have hated the idea of a statue of him, especially of him dancing"

Morris suggested a more artistic memorial, like a column might be a better way to honor Curtis.  Read Morris' comments here.

Curtis' ashes are buried in the Macclesfield Cemetery, and tons of fans visit the site each year to pay respect.
