R.I.P. Jaki Liebezeit, Can founding member & drummer

Jaki Liebezeit of the influential krautrock band Can has died at the age of 78. The band (via their label Spoon) announced the tragic news last night:

"It is with great sadness we have to announce that Jaki passed away this morning from sudden pneumonia. He fell asleep peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. We will miss him hugely."

Though Can had several different lineups over the years, Liebezeit worked and played on all of their albums. In addition to his groundbreaking work with Can, he worked with other musicians and drum ensembles. Some of the better known artists he collaborated with include Neu!, Brian Eno, Depeche Mode, and Eurythmics.
