Released on this day in 1987: New Order + The Smiths

Seminal singles from two Classic Alternative behemoths were released on this day in 1987...both incredible and iconic singles continue to impress and amaze with their brilliance.

New Order's "Touched By The Hand Of God" was originally written for the Salvation! soundtrack, but ahead of the soundtrack's 1988 release, New Order released a single version and dub mix on the 7" and 12" (respectively). The anthem is one of the many, many gems in New Order's brilliant catalog and is unquestionably the most entertaining video New Order released. New Order taking a fantastic dig at crappy hair bands that were at that point dominating MTV and radio. MTV wasn't amused and gave it no airtime.

The Smiths ended on a high note with Strangeways Here We Come - every track on their swansong is a classic. But the haunting single "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" remains a cut above all other Smiths songs  - it is the quintessential Smiths song. This enduring and beloved song remains not only a fan favorite, but Johnny Marr and Morrissey also consider it the crown jewel in their incredible catalog.

No hope, no harm...
