Today marks the 40th anniversary of Joy Division's first live show which took place at Pips in Manchester as part of New Wave Night. Up until that point the band was named Warsaw, and they had made their live debut as Warsaw in 1977. But it wasn't until January 25th that they played their first gig as Joy Division. Though it was the first official Joy Division show, fans attending didn't realize it - the gig was billed as a Warsaw show because the band decided to change their name to Joy Division that very night.
