Joy Division announce 40th anniversary edition of 'Unknown Pleasures'

Unknown Pleasures, the debut album from Joy Division was released June 15th, 1979 and turns 40 years old next month. To mark the milestone, Joy Division announced the release of a limited edition vinyl edition of the seminal album. The 40th anniversary edition will be pressed on 180 gm ruby red vinyl and includes white cover art.

Though the Unknown Pleasures artwork is one of the most iconic and instantly identifiable album covers in music history, the original concept was to feature a white backing with black accents similar to the original pulsar image that served as the inspiration for the artwork. (The intriguing image was published in the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy and was later adapted by Peter Saville for the album artwork.)

The 40th anniversary edition of Unknown Pleasures will be released on June 14th. Visit the official Joy Division store to view pre-order options and bundles.

Joy Division have partnered with London clothing retailer Goodhood. The company created an Unknown Pleasures-inspired "collaborative capsule collection that spans apparel, homeware and accessories." The collection will be available at Goodhood from June 27th through July 11th.
