Noel Gallagher - Live DVD

Noel Gallagher is releasing his first live DVD on October 15th.  Magic Live at the O2 was recorded during Gallagher's February 26th concert in London.  The double disc set will include the full concert on the first disc, and the second disc features an acoustic gig recorded in Toronto, a video trilogy, and footage from this year's NME Awards where Gallagher performed a short set after being crowned Godlike Genius.  A limited edition version of the DVD adds a bonus disc of demos, b-sides, and more.  Pre-order the collection here.

Depeche Mode - 2013 Tour info

Back in July a list of Depeche Mode 2013 tour dates were making the rounds on the internet, only to be shot down a few days later by Jonathan Kessler, the band's manager, as "not confirmed." Kessler went on to state that Depeche Mode would indeed be touring in 2013 and info would be revealed in the fall.  Well, it's almost the fall, right?

New reports are circulating which indicate the 2013 tour info will be announced at a press conference in Paris on October 23rd, and information on the band's forthcoming album will also be revealed at that time. The press conference has not been confirmed by any of the usual sources, so for now, it's just a rumor.

Noel Gallagher - Spider Panic!

Noel Gallagher's guitar case caused major panic on Sunday!  According to a BBC report, a "huge black spider with green fangs" escaped from one of Noel's guitar cases as it was being unloaded backstage for the Jersey Live festival. Mass hysteria ensued and the backstage area of the festival was quarantined for around 20 minutes as representatives from a nearby conservation group were called over to capture the spider before sending it away for analysis.  Interestingly enough, Gallagher himself wasn't around for all the drama.  Hmmmmm...

Bob Mould - Silver Age

Bob Mould's new solo album, Silver Age, is out now. Last week the album premiered on Rolling Stone as an exclusive stream, and today you can officially grab Silver Age. The album is available on cd, vinyl, and as a digital download from Merge Records, Amazon, and iTunes. If you're going the digital download route, the iTunes version includes a bonus live version of "The Descent."

Mystery Machine - Western Magnetics

Mystery Machine are back with a new album! It's been a LONG time since we've heard new music from this fantastic Vancouver band - their last album, Headfirst Into Everything, was released back in 1998. The new album, Western Magnetics, is a collection of material recorded over a span of about 10 years, and it's a swoon-worthy mix of shoegaze and guitar rock.  But don't take my word for it - take a listen right now for yourself. Western Magnetics is streaming in its entirety over at Exclaim!

Western Magnetics will be released digitally and as a physical cd through Sonic Unyon on September 11th.  Pre-order directly from Sonic Unyon here.

Toy - Toy full album stream

Toy drop their debut album later this month and the full record is streaming ahead of its release.  Visit Toy's official site to listen to their self-titled album in its entirety, plus there are also a variety of links to pre-order the album in the U.K. (album drops on cd, vinyl, and as a digital album on September 10th.)  Fans in the U.K. may also want to consider buying from Rough Trade - they are selling a version that comes along with a bonus six-track disc Toy - Live at the BBC.  

Fans in the U.S. will have to wait until September 25th for Toy to arrive on cd, but a double vinyl version will be released September 11th.  So far North American digital retailers (iTunes and Amazon's mp3 store) don't have a listing for the album, but even though this story turned out to be fake, it's probably best to buy physical product anyway!

Radiohead - Live at the Metro in Chicago, 1993

Radiohead fans who enjoyed the band's debut album Pablo Honey will want to take a look at the video posted below.  It's footage from Radiohead's very first U.S. tour - during the summer of 1993 the band were on the road promoting the newly released Pablo Honey.  The tour brought them stateside for about 20-25 dates (including a Detroit date July 1st at St. Andrew's Hall).  Now video from their June 30th 1993 concert at the Metro in Chicago has appeared on You Tube via Dangerous Minds.  Watch the young Radiohead rip through a 12 song set, plus there's a short interview with Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood at the end of the video.  Enjoy!

Steve Lillywhite - Interview in Hollywood Reporter

The Hollywood Reporter published a new interview with famed producer Steve Lillywhite. The interview mainly focuses on Lillywhite's upcoming releases and bands he's worked with lately - he talked about his working relationship with Dave Matthews, gave major props to Brandon Flowers and Jared Leto, and admitted he's still hoping for a job as a judge on a television talent show.  But the most revealing portion of the interview was Lillywhite's brief discussion of how he "got the U2 job" because of Martin Hannett:

"Martin Hannett produced U2's first single, and he was going to do the album. But then Ian Curtis [of Joy Division] committed suicide, and Hannett got all weird and said he wasn’t in the right head space to produce U2. So they went back to their list, and I was on it."

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult have added a Detroit date to their fall tour.  According to the band's website, the show is scheduled for October 28th at the Token Lounge in Westland.  Currently the Token Lounge appears to have the wrong date (October 12th) listed on their website and a link to buy tickets is not available yet.  I'm sure everything will be sorted out soon, however at least it's good news that a fall Detroit date has been added...

Morrissey - U.S. television appearances planned

Morrissey's upcoming tour of the U.S. will include a handful of late night tv gigs.  According to True To You, Moz will appear on Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and the Colbert Report.  Air dates are yet to be announced. 

Good thing Morrissey doesn't hold a grudge - last year his scheduled appearance on Jimmy Kimmel was canceled at the last minute.  Morrissey later explained the cancellation:

"We all enjoyed the Conan O'Brien Show, especially after the sinking loss of the Jimmy Kimmel Show being dropped. We only had one other free night to do the show, so Jimmy asked his booked guests 'Lady A' if they would switch their slot so that we could fit in; but they refused. Oh."

Hopewell featuring Mark Gardener

Mark Gardener from Ride has been busy with a variety of projects lately. Besides preparing the 20th anniversary reissue of Ride's Going Blank Again, earlier this year Gardener announced a new collaborative music/art project Hush Delirium, recorded a song with Robin Guthrie, and has been on the road performing solo shows along with Sky Parade. Now comes news from self-titled mag that Gardener has hooked up with New York band Hopewell to record a cover of the Brian Eno song "Needle In The Camel's Eye." The cover is available as a 7 inch single and is the lead track on Hopewell's five song ep titled Another Music, which arrives on September 11th via Tee Pee. Chateau Taylor-Taylor - Dandy Warhols

Courtney Taylor-Taylor from the Dandy Warhols has created his own limited edition wine.  For years Taylor-Taylor hoped someone would come along and make a red wine to pair perfectly with spicy foods.  Frustrated with no one else stepping up to the plate, he concocted his own - the Chateau Taylor-Taylor Bocca d'Avolo 2010.  Taylor-Taylor explained a little bit about the wine recently on the Dandy's official site: 

I ended up getting a lot of help, advice, and experience and finally came up with a blend of two fairly obscure Sicilian grapes that deliver an earth and mineral old world red with a vaguely bright opening bouquet.  Do I sound like an asshole yet?  Well I’m pretty serious about wine so believe me, this is beautiful in the order of older Borolo, Rioja and Bordeaux or even a little Barbaresco except bigger.  You’ll shit.  It’s awesome.

The Chateau Taylor-Taylor Bocca d'Avolo 2010 is a red Sicilian is made from 90% Nero d’Avola/10% Grillo grapes, and is certified organic.  Pre-order the limited edition (only 75 cases being sold) wine here.  Expected ship date is late October/early November.

In more Dandy-related news, during a June unplugged gig at the Bing Lounge in Portland, Oregon, the band dusted off a Brian Jonestown Massacre song, "Stars." Before playing the song, Taylor-Taylor, who has previously commented about his unfair portrayal in the 2004 film Dig, made a few more, uh, digs about the production, and also talked about recently hanging out with BJM's Anton Newcombe.
