Earlier this yearThe Cure announced plans to perform a series of Disintegration 30th anniversary shows at the Sydney Opera House. The shows sold out instantly, however today -- to mark the 30th anniversary of Disintegration -- The Cure announced they'll play an additional Disintegration anniversary show on Thursday, May 30th. Mark your calendar because this fifth and final show of their residency will stream live from Sydney worldwide!
Fans will be able to view the Cure's live stream via You Tube and Facebook bright and early on May 30th at 6AM Eastern Standard Time (the stream takes place at 8PM Australian Eastern Standard Time which is 14 hours ahead).
The Disintegration 30th anniversary show will see The Cure performing the classic 1989 album in full followed by "a selection of rarely performed b-sides plus specially curated deep catalogue cuts" and is expected to last 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Disintegration was released May 2nd, 1989 and remains one of The Cure's most influential and critically acclaimed records. The album includes many of their best known songs like "Fascination Street," "Lovesong," and "Pictures Of You," along with fan favorites "Lullaby," "Prayers For Rain," "Plainsong," and the ultra-epic "The Same Deep Water As You."
The Cure will be heading back to the U.S. in October to play Austin City Limits Music Festival. The festival takes place at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas October 4th - 6th and October 11th - 13th (identical lineups for both weekends). Three day general admission passes for ACL are on sale now, however considering the overall unappealing nature of the festival lineup, Cure fans may want to hold off until the daily lineups are revealed and/or single day passes go on sale. So far The Cure have not announced other dates surrounding ACL, but considering they'll be in the U.S. with a week off between these festival gigs it's possible they could be considering opportunities for other shows. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, today marks the 35th anniversary of The Cure's classic album The Top. Enjoy some footage of The Cure performing cuts from The Top captured live in 1984.
Johnny Marr has canceled the first few dates of his North American tour this week due to visa complications. Marr issued a statement today apologizing to fans for the inconvenience but revealed the situation was out of his control. The tour was scheduled to kick off April 27th in Atlanta, but will now begin May 1st in Montclair, New Jersey.

Meanwhile, Morrissey recently postponed/rescheduled several dates on his Canadian tour (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg) to October due to "an accident incurred while traveling in Europe." Morrissey's tour is scheduled to kick off tomorrow in Toronto.

Martin L. Gore will be honored this Friday, April 26th at Moogfest. The legendary electronic pioneer and founder of Depeche Mode was already scheduled to appear alongside Daniel Miller at a Moogfest keynote event, and now organizers have revealed that Gore is the recipient of the 2019 Moog Innovation Award. The annual prestigious award recognizes innovating artists who have contributed to the exploration of sound in popular music and beyond for the past 50 years. Past recipients include Brian Eno and Gary Numan among others.

Gore will receive the award on Friday following his keynote conversation with Daniel Miller.
Moogfest takes place April 25th through April 28th in Durham, North Carolina. The annual festival pays tribute to Bob Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer, and celebrates the synthesis of music, art, and technology.
Peter Hook has announced he'll perform two special shows in the U.K. to mark the 40th anniversary of Joy Division's seminal albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer.
Joy Division: A Celebration will see Peter Hook and the Light performing both classic albums in full along with an opening set of New Order material. The shows take place May 15th at O2 Academy Brixton in London and May 16th at the O2 Apollo in Manchester. Tickets for the shows go on sale Friday, April 26th.
Unknown Pleasures turns 40 years old this June (originally released June 15th, 1979) while Closer turns 40 in July 2020 (originally issued July 18th, 1980).
Hook hasn't announced plans for any other 40th anniversary celebrations elsewhere in 2020, however Peter Hook & The Light will return to North America later this year for the previously announced Technique/Republic tour which includes a Joy Division opening set. Mark Lanegan Band return with a new album Somebody's Knocking on October 18th.
The follow up to 2017's Gargoyle features 14 songs that sonically range from psychedelic to electronic-based. One song titled "Penthouse High" has been described as "a love letter to imperial phase New Order."
Electronic might seem like a departure for Lanegan, but he reveals he's a huge fan of the genre, especially classic New Order and Depeche Mode:
"I’ve always been into electronic music since I was a kid. I think the reason those elements have become more obvious in my music is that my tastes have changed as I’ve grown older. The bulk of what I listen to now is electronic. Alain Johannes and I had actually written Penthouse High for Gargoyle but then it didn't really fit on that record. I have been a huge fan of New Order and Depeche Mode forever and have wanted to do a song along those lines for a long time - a blatantly catchy, old-school dance-type song."
Today Lanegan debuted the first single "Stitch It Up" along with its highly entertaining music video. The video features Donal Logue reprising his role as Jimmy The Cab Driver - for the unaware, Logue's beloved cabbie character was a staple on MTV in the 90s. The video also includes a cameo from Lanegan's girlfriend Shelley Brien, along with Lanegan himself sporting a few different looks.

Ride teased fans a few weeks ago with the promise of new music. Today the shoegaze legends have made good on the promise and unveiled details behind their sixth studio album, This Is Not A Safe Place. Ride once again teamed up with Erol Alkan, producer behind 2017's Weather Diaries, for the 12 track album which is brimming with Ride's signature harmonies. This Is Not A Safe Place came together at the end of 2018 and was mixed by Alan Moulder and Caesar Edmunds at Assault and Battery in London.
Along with the album announcement Ride debuted the first taste of music from the soon-to-be classic album. "Future Love" is a brillant shimmery dream pop track filled with hope, love, and promise. Andy Bell reveals the track is "about the beginning of a relationship, when everything feels possible."

This week marks the 30th anniversary of Pixies' seminal album Doolittle. The band's second studio record, originally released April 17th, 1989 (one day later in the U.S.) is an alternative behemoth - the album contains massive hits "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone To Heaven" along with cherished fan favorites "Debaser," "Wave Of Mutilation," "Hey," "La La Love You," "Gouge Away," "Tame," and SO many more! Doolittle remains a timeless Classic Alternative work and highly influential record which paved the way and shaped the world of music.
In December 2018, Doolittle was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, meaning it officially sold one million copies/units. In celebration of this important milestone, along with the 30th anniversary, Newbury Comics has announced the release of three limited edition exclusive vinyl pressings of Doolittle. Only 1000 copies of each edition are available - fans can choose from pinwheel, splatter, and swirl. These vinyl editions are exclusive to Newbury Comics and will be available through their physical and online stores while supplies last.

Buzzcocks have announced reissues for A Different Kind Of Tension and Singles Going Steady. Like their previous reissues for Another Music In A Different Kitchen and Love Bites, these 40th anniversary reissues have been restored from their original tapes for the first time.
Along with the music, both reissues feature newly curated booklets with previously unseen images. Renowned music journalist Jon Savage contributed an essay included in the liner notes for A Different Kind Of Tension; punk authority Clinton Heylin penned the essay for Singles Going Steady.
A Different Kind Of Tension has been pressed on yellow vinyl; Singles Going Steady on purplish/magenta vinyl. Both reissues arrive on June 14th and are available to pre-order here.

Nick Cave published the latest issue of The Red Hand Files, a monthly series which features the legend answering a question from a fan.
The April issue focuses on current modern rock music. As always, Cave is on point with his thought provoking reply which addresses the "ailing" safe and tired state of modern rock, plus tackles sanctimonious moralism prevalent in music today.
"It has become afflicted with a kind of tiredness and confusion and faint-heartedness, and no longer has the stamina to fight the great battles that rock music has always fought. It seems to me there is little new or authentic, as it becomes safer, more nostalgic, more cautious and more corporate."
"Go to your record collection and mind-erase those who have led questionable lives and see how much of it remains. It is the artist who steps beyond the accepted social boundaries who will bring back ideas that shed new light on what it means to be alive." "Art must be wrestled from the hands of the pious, in whatever form they may come – and they are always coming, knives out, intent on murdering creativity. At this depressing time in rock ‘n’ roll though, perhaps they can serve a purpose, perhaps rock music needs to die for a while, so that something powerful and subversive and truly monumental can rise up out of it."

The kickoff of Morrissey's first tour of Canada in almost 20 years has been delayed.
According to the statement provided by the hosting venues and Ticketmaster, the postponement is due to "a medical emergency stemming from an accident incurred while traveling in Europe."
It's unclear whether the accident involves Morrissey or a member of his band, and so far Morrissey's official website has not posted a statement regarding the situation, however Morrissey's official website has published the October makeup dates on the tour itinerary page.
The shows in Vancouver and Edmonton have been rescheduled for October, and it's expected more rescheduled dates (or cancellations) will be announced shortly -- the Ticketmaster information sent to fans indicates the tour will resume on April 26th in Toronto.
Hope Moz and/or his band is on the mend and recuperating.

Ian Brown premiered the official video to his brilliant single "From Chaos To Harmony." The video was filmed on location in Southend-on-Sea and was directed by John Nolan.
"From Chaos To Harmony" features a lyrical nod to The Stone Roses "dried up Roses turn to Stone" -- and now the video makes an equally intriguing statement. Of interest is the gold plated lemon coin the boy in the video uses to make the (somewhat creepy) head play Brown's music which seems to illustrate that one must trade in the Roses in order to hear Brown's solo music. You be the judge.
Regardless, it's a brilliant song and one of the highlights on Brown's new album Ripples.
In honor of Record Store Day, The The announced the release of a limited edition...CD. Sure, it's a CD, but the limited edition release at least has the look of vinyl. The six track CD is titled Miscellany and includes previously unreleased material from two forthcoming Cineola soundtrack albums (soundtrack to Helios and Oden) plus previously released soundtrack songs.
