Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes was interviewed by Faster Louder ahead of some Australian festival dates that were announced recently. In the interview Ritchie didn't discuss founding member Victor DeLorenzo's recent exit (DeLorenzo was replaced, at least for upcoming tour duties, by Dresden Doll Brian Viglione), but he did talk about the Femmes' classic 1983 album, which he called "timeless" and "a masterpiece," and how new generations identify with those beloved 30 year old songs:

"They’ve become part of the culture, they’re more than just songs from a popular band. So many people identify with those songs...The new generation keeps getting into it the same way as the previous ones. It’s not like a retro thing. We intended it that way when we made the first album...we were trying to make something that would last..."

Ritchie also talked about touring, reuniting, and the Pixies and the Replacements (all three acts are part of Riot Fest in Chicago September 13 - 15). Read the full interview with Brian Ritchie over at Faster Louder.

Scandroid is the new side project featuring Red (Klayton/Celldweller) and Raven (Varien). The debut single, "Salvation Code" is a driving explosion of dance/electro awesomeness, though Scandroid prefer to describe it as a New Retro sound of a forgotten era:

"Based in an abandoned warehouse in Old Tokyo, they are surrounded by ancient technology and sound from the era of the 1980s. Beneath the shadow of the elite and unreachable Neo-Tokyo, they plan their revolution…"

Stream "Salvation Code" below and grab a free download here (requires a "like" on Facebook). The track is also available as a digital single through iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, and the FiXT store.

The Department of Commerce Internet Policy Task Force in the U.S. released a green paper in July which in part calls for more severe penalties for illegal streaming and suggests the penalty be changed from a misdemeanor to a felony. The 122 page document also tackles some other grey areas of music streaming, licensing, DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), and related topics like remixing copyrights, orphan recordings, and takedown notices. If internet streaming, licensing, and copyright is interesting to you, you'll find the paper a fascinating read. Access the green paper here (the pdf takes a few moments to load, so be patient). The Cure played Lollapalooza at Chicago's Grant Park yesterday (August 4th).  The band's two hour set streamed live as part of the festival's webcast, but if you missed it, check out the full performance below.

FYI, I had the great pleasure of attending the show in person and it was even better than the webcast suggests. The sound was incredible and the audience was so into the show. There were a lot of old school Cure fans in the audience (I saw quite a few 'classic' Cure t-shirts) but there were also tons of young fans (who knew the words to all the songs, no less). Sadly enough, a great number of fans chose to attempt to videotape the show and watch from their phones instead of cherishing the moment.

I bought a couple Cure tour shirts...perhaps I'll give one away on an upcoming Time Warp show. :)

Ministry/Wax Trax! royalty Paul Barker and Chris Connelly formed a new industrial/electo project titled Bells Into Machines. A full length record is in the works and expected out in the coming months, but for now enjoy a couple of demos below. Catch up with Bells Into Machines on their newly launched website and Facebook page.

Bernard Sumner from New Order joined the Killers onstage during their set at Lollapalooza to sing the Joy Division classic "Shadowplay." Check it out below:

New Order also performed a few Joy Division songs during their set at Lollapalooza yesterday. So far high quality video from New Order's performance isn't available, but a short interview with the band is posted below. Nothing too earth shattering was revealed in the interview - Stephen Morris did confirm Bernard Sumner fractured his leg (Sumner himself noted the fracture stems from an older injury) and when the interviewer inquired about New Order releasing a new ep later this year, Morris' reaction seemed to indicate they haven't gotten too far along with it. Check out the interview and setlist from New Order's Lollapalooza set below:

Today Ministry released the digital single for "Permawar," the first offering from the legendary band's new album From Beer To Eternity. "Permawar" is available as a digital download from iTunes, and so far the track has not been released to any other digital etailers.  Stream "Permawar" here.

The full length album From Beer To Eternity will be released September 6th, and according to Al Jourgensen, the record will be Ministry's last. It's unknown right now if Ministry will tour behind the new album - Jourgensen initially said there would be no tour, then in a subsequent interview he revealed he needed the money and would "probably" do a tour.

Jourgensen is also developing several other musical projects: He's planning on doing another Buck Satan album, he's got a Ministry-meets-reggae project tentatively titled Dubistry in the works, and he also mentioned in a recent interview that he's hoping to do a college lecture series where he tours college campuses and lectures to students (he admitted he was drunk during the interview, so who knows if the lecture series will come to pass).

Meanwhile the release of Ministry's live CD/DVD Enjoy The Quiet - Live at Wacken 2012, which was recorded at last year's Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany, has been pushed back a few weeks to August 27th. The live collection will be released on CD, DVD, deluxe 2CD/DVD (includes bonus CD), Blu-Ray, vinyl, and digital download.
