Garbage debut new single + Shirley Manson talks Debbie Harry

Garbage are currently on the road with Blondie as part of the Rage and Rapture tour in North America. So far they've been opening their set each night with a timely new track titled "No Horses." Shirley Manson describes the song as:

"...a dream fueled anxiety attack. A dark imagining of the future in which a presiding regime values only profit and success leaving no room for tiny beautiful things, small gestures and great beasts."

Today Garbage released the studio version of "No Horses" today as a digital single with profits being donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross. Download the single on iTunes or Amazon and stream it below:



Meanwhile Shirley Manson was recently asked by W to describe her relationship with the legendary Debbie Harry. Check out her glowing comments below and read the full interview here.

NIN announce 'Add Violence' EP; share single/video

Trent Reznor made good on his promise -- Nine Inch Nails debuted new music ahead of the band's live dates this summer. Today Reznor unleashed the single and video for "Less Than," which serves as the first single off of a new EP titled Add Violence. The EP is the follow up to the 2016's Not The Actual Events and is second in NIN's recently announced EP trilogy. Reznor reveals that the lyrics, artwork, and "accompanying physical component" (which will be available exclusively through the NIN.com), link the three releases:

"Add Violence finds Nine Inch Nails becoming more accessible and impenetrable at the same time. The sonic palette expands significantly from Not The Actual Events, incorporating elements of beauty into the dark dissonance. The narrative arc linking the three records begins to emerge through the disassociated lyrics and the provocative and clue-filled cover artwork and accompanying physical component, available exclusively through the NIN.com store."

Add Violence arrives digitally on July 21st, as a "digital EP and physical component" on August 7th, and on CD September 1st. View the options over at NIN's store.

The official video for "Less Than" features a customized version of the video game Polybius. Reznor reportedly cold-called the game's designer and together they made Reznor's vision a reality. Watch the video below and learn more about how it all came together here.

The Church announce new LP & North American tour; play Detroit

The Church announced details for their 26th studio album along with a massive North American tour in support of the effort. The album is titled Man Woman Life Death Infinity and arrives this fall (date TBA) and features the new single "Another Century," which premiered and was released as a digital single in June.

The Church head back out on the road this fall for a 29 date U.S. tour with special guest The Helio Sequence serving as support for all the shows. The tour kicks off in Portland on September 8th and hits Detroit's Magic Stick on October 5th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Friday, July 14th). New Order: Live stream from Manchester International Festival

A portion of New Order's set from tonight's gig at the Manchester International Festival will stream live this afternoon. The band's series of shows backed by a 12 member synthesizer ensemble with visuals by Liam Gillick have been getting rave reviews from fans and music critics alike.

The set is scheduled to stream at 9:10 pm local time (4:10 pm ET) here. It is unclear at this point whether it will be geoblocked, but fingers crossed it'll be available to view in North America.

New Order's final show of the Manchester International Festival residency takes place July 15th.

The Sisters Of Mercy release 4LP set 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake'

The Sisters Of Mercy announced the release of a vinyl box set titled Some Girls Wander By Mistake. The set includes a vinyl edition of the career-spanning 1992 compilation Some Girls Wander By Mistake along with 12" singles for Temple Of Love and Under The Gun. Highlights of the set include the superior-but-out-of-print original extended version of "Temple Of Love," cover of the Stooges' classic "1969," and the Sisters very first single "The Damage Done," which was originally released in 1980.

Some Girls Wander By Mistake will be released as a 4LP set pressed on 180 gm vinyl on September 1st and is available to pre-order here.

New David Bowie boxset - A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982)

In 2015 David Bowie announced plans to release a series of expansive boxsets, each celebrating various Bowie eras. The first in the series, Five Years (1969 - 1973) was released in 2015 and was followed by the second installment Who Can I Be Now (1974 - 1976) last year. Today the third boxset in the series A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982) was announced and is scheduled to arrive September 29th.

David Bowie - A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982) focuses on the critically acclaimed Berlin Trilogy recordings (Low, "Heroes", & Lodger) along with two versions of Stage (original and 2017 editions), 1980's Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), plus the new compilation Re:Call 3. In addition to the remastered edition of Lodger, a newly remixed edition of the album -- Tony Visconti 2017 Mix -- is also presented here for the first time. Though Bowie wouldn't live to hear the final remixed edition, he greenlit Visconti's vision of remixing Lodger in full before his death in 2016.

Like the previous two boxsets, A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982) will be released physically on LP and CD formats. Both editions include identical material, although the song order on Re:Call 3 differs slightly. Both formats also come with a book filled with commentary by Tony Visconti, archival press reviews, rare and previously unseen/unpublished photos shot by Anton Corbijn, Helmut Newton, Andrew Kent, and much more.

Fashion: Iconic Joy Division/New Order artwork featured in runway show

Designer Raf Simons premiered his 2018 line of rain-gear at an outdoor runway show titled Closer in Manhattan recently. The production was a Joy Division/New Order fan's dream: the set included Chinese lanterns with Peter Saville's iconic artwork, while Simons' collection prominently featured Joy Division and New Order items such as t-shirts and umbrellas. His collection will make you long for rainy days indeed.

Chris Cornell: final police report, pictures, 911 recording released

More details emerged yesterday about the death of Chris Cornell. Several pictures taken at the scene at the MGM Detroit and the recording of the 911 call were released yesterday subsequent to a Freedom of Information Act request from The Free Press. Additionally the final police report and ME findings have also been released.

The Breeders announce tour; play Detroit

The Breeders have been working on new material lately, and though they haven't revealed details for a release, they're raring to get back on the road to play. Last week they announced details for a European tour, and today they've unveiled details for a short headline run of North America. The tour is their first since 2014 and includes a Detroit date November 1st at the Magic Stick. Tickets for the Detroit show go on sale this Friday, July 14th.

Roma police allegedly threatening to sue Morrissey over "defamatory" comments

It looks like Morrissey might be in some hot water over comments he made regarding his recent run-in with police in Rome.

Last week Morrissey was pulled over by police after the car he was riding in was allegedly going the wrong way (it's still unclear whether Moz himself was driving). Things escalated from there after the officer allegedly asked to see his papers (documentation/passport/etc). After a 35 minute altercation the police let him go, leaving Moz to fume over the entire situation.

Photographer Sam Esty Rayner* (aka Moz's nephew) later posted about the drama on his Facebook page. The post included a photo of the officer along with a quote or two from Morrissey alleging he had been "terrorized" by police. For their part, the police allege Moz was speeding the wrong way down the road and claim he had an attitude from the beginning because the officer didn't recognize him.

After the story went viral, U.K. newspaper The Metro contacted Morrissey to confirm the events in Rome, and they later published a piece featuring several colorful comments from Moz, who referred to the police department as "armed psychopaths."

According to new reports published today (translated here), Roma police weren't amused by his "armed psychopath" comments and the department is now threatening to sue for defamation.

It should be noted that after settling his libel lawsuit with NME in 2012, Morrissey has mostly refused to do interviews unless they are emailed (to protect himself from being quoted out of context). It is unclear whether his interview with the Metro was via email or recorded.

"Yes, I had an attitude – of someone being provoked. I do not expect anyone anywhere to know who I am. If this is all the police can say in their defence, then you must draw your own conclusions.

"With armed psychopaths free on the streets of Roma, then incoming migrants will soon be storming Italian borders to get back to Libya.

"Italy’s ranking as 126th most dangerous country in the world has now shifted to number 1."

Morrissey hasn't posted a statement or account of events on his official Facebook page or True To You, but stay tuned.

*To make matters more interesting/convoluted, Rayner is now claiming he wasn't even in Rome when the altercation took place.

The National add Detroit show to North American tour

The National return with their highly anticipated album Sleep Well Beast on September 8th. Today the band announced additional dates for their mostly sold out North American tour, which now includes shows in Pittsburgh and Detroit. The Detroit show takes place October 8th at the Masonic Temple and the general onsale for tickets is Friday, July 14th. A pre-sale is scheduled to begin Thursday at 10am.

Tori Amos announces 'Native Invader' LP & North American tour

Tori Amos premiered album artwork for her new studio album last week, and today she's unveiled details behind her 15th studio album as well as dates for a North American tour.

The follow up to her 2014 album Unrepentant Geraldines is titled Native Invader and will be released September 8th. Amos explained the concept behind her album:

"The songs on Native Invader are being pushed by the Muses to find different ways of facing unforeseen challenges and in some cases dangerous conflicts. The record looks to Nature and how, through resilience, she heals herself. The songs also wrestle with the question: what is our part in the destruction of our land, as well as ourselves, and in our relationships with each other?

In life there can be the shock of unexpected fires, floods, earthquakes, or any cataclysmic ravager - both on the inside and outside of our minds. Sonically and visually, I wanted to look at how Nature creates with her opposing forces, becoming the ultimate regenerator through her cycles of death and re-birth. Time and time again she is able to renew, can we find this renewal for ourselves?"

Amos announced a North American tour in support of Native Invader, which includes a stop at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor on October 31st. Noel Gallagher joins U2 for "Don't Look Back In Anger" encore

The European leg of U2's 30th anniversary/Joshua Tree Tour kicked off this evening in London. For the encore, opener Noel Gallagher was invited back on stage to perform the Oasis classic "Don't Look Back In Anger" along with U2 (well, it turned out to mostly be Noel singing/playing guitar with the band and Bono looking uncomfortable/awkward). This isn't the first time Gallagher shared the stage with U2 -- he performed with them at their previous London gig in 2015.

Gallagher recently revealed he's been looking forward to touring with U2, and is particularly excited to sample their catering (plus threw a jab Liam's way):

Ian McCulloch interview; hates on Star Wars

Echo & The Bunnymen are set to kick off their co-headline North American tour with Violent Femmes next week. Ahead of the tour, The New York Post published a short piece/interview with leader Ian McCulloch. The focus of the interview was the major impact film and television have had on Echo's resurgence, and McCulloch admitted he was eager to have the band's music featured in even more productions to help win over a new generation of Bunnymen fans.

The best part of the interview was Imac's answer to whether there were any projects he wouldn't want his music to be associated with:

"I'd never have any of the band's music in any of the Star Wars films...I hate them all, especially the first one. All the monsters are crap, and that sodding robot with the stupid walk -- I always wanted someone to smash his head in. Oh, and anything with Nicholas Cage."

Nine Inch Nails: "Next Week"

Nine Inch Nails fans have a little something to look forward to this week according to Trent Reznor's latest tweet. Reznor has previously stated that NIN's highly anticipated follow up to Not The Actual Events (the second installment in the EP trilogy) would be released before the band's summer shows. And it's almost time to get the show on the road -- NIN's first scheduled show is July 23rd in Los Angeles -- sooooooooo, it sure seems likely that the EP or at least a song will drop this week. Reznor also posted an Instagram pic of The Fragile, but underneath the long-awaited physical version of The Fragile is a mostly obstructed picture of something else, which might just be the new EP.
