As previously reported, Gary Numan is set to return with his new studio album Savage: Songs Of A Broken World  on September 15th. Yesterday he premiered the first single "My Name Is Ruin" which features backing vocals from his daughter Persia, who also appears in the song's video (the video, directed by Chris Corner of IAMX, was filmed recently in the desert and is currently in post-production).

Numan also revealed the 10 track album was produced by longtime collaborator Ade Fenton and has an apocalyptic theme:

"Savage: Songs Of A Broken World is set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so, and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It’s a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still roam across it.

"The songs are about the things people do in such a harsh and terrifying environment. It's about a desperate need to survive and do they do awful things in order to do so, and some are haunted by what they've done. That desire to be forgiven, along with some discovered remnants of an old religious book, ultimately encourages religion to resurface, and it really goes downhill from there."

"My Name Is Ruin" was released today as a digital single and is available to stream below:

Though Savage: Songs Of A Broken World has been available through Pledge Music since last year, Numan has now launched a different set of pre-orders through his official store. Several options are available including the album on double heavyweight vinyl, cassette, CD, deluxe CD, picture disc, and deluxe package which includes the picture disc, deluxe CD, double vinyl, cassette, and more. Check out all the options here.

Don't miss Gary Numan on tour in North America this fall. The show includes a stop at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit on November 30th and tickets are on sale now.
