Swervedriver is on the road in Australia performing Raise in its entirety, and as promised, they performed a couple of new songs. At the September 26th show in Brisbane they debuted two new songs, "Buzz" and "Husk." So far, no audio or video of the tracks has appeared online.

Swervedriver fans attending the shows will definitely want to stop by the merch booth to pick up the first Swervedriver release in 15 years. A vinyl pressing of "Deep Wound" (with backing vocals from Ride's Mark Gardener) on red and yellow vinyl will be available in limited quantities at each show. The limited edition pressing went on sale through Tym Records a few weeks ago and sold out in less than 24 hours, so be sure to grab a copy if you find one at the gigs. Fans in other territories who missed out on previously can grab a copy while they last here. (Thanks to the Swervedriver forum for the link!)

Swervedriver also was interviewed by Australia's Sunday Morning Herald and discussed their affinity for Australia, the "ridiculous" shoegaze term, and leader Adam Franklin also discussed the band's history:

"Our music was always about a sort of wanderlust for the USA; it's about driving across the desert, which, of course, we'd never done. We first got into car imagery driving around Oxfordshire and down to London listening to tapes with the windows open; it was the Oxford version of the US road trip."

Dates for the remaining dates of Australian tour are posted below. For more on Swervedriver visit the official site here.

SEP 27 Sydney, Metro Theatre
SEP 28 Melbourne, Corner Hotel

The Foreign Resort have been brilliantly weaving a fantastic blend of post-punk, new wave, darkwave, and shoegaze since they formed in 2008.  Last year the Danish band released the majestically dark Scattered & Buried (check it out here or here), and they're about to follow up that release with a brand new full length record.  Over the summer the Foreign Resort recorded with legendary producer John Fryer (This Mortal Coil, Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins, Fad Gadget & zillions more), and from those sessions comes New Frontiers (release date TBA).  The album is preceded by the first single, "Dead End Roads," which will be released digitally through iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp, on September 30th. In spring 2013 Veruca Salt's original lineup (Nina Gordon, Louise Post, Jim Shapiro, and Steve Lack) announced they patched up their differences and decided to reunite. Apparently things are going swimmingly, because the band just announced that they're preparing to enter the studio in October to record some new songs with producer Brad Wood at the helm. [Wood produced Veruca Salt's 1994 debut American Thighs, and worked with other notable artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo, Liz Phair, and Hum, just to name a few]. So far no other details were announced, but fans interested in Veruca Salt can likely expect updates to come soon.  Be sure to catch up with Veruca Salt on their official siteFacebook, and Twitter.

Wonder what they think of this.

One of the main attractions at Riot Fest Chicago (besides the Replacements) was the Butter Stamos -- a large butter sculpture of actor John Stamos protected by a bulletproof glass case. Alternative Press sent members of Taking Back Sunday out to do a little investigative reporting on Butter Stamos. Take a look at their video report, which includes an interview with Butter Stamos' creator, Jim Victor, who is also known as "the Jay Z of food art."

Why John Stamos, you ask? Turns out he received the most votes in the Riot Fest poll, thus edging out Andrew W.K. and Oderus Urungus.

The Pixies were interviewed by the Wall Street Journal last week prior to their series of NYC shows. The band was asked to comment on Pitchfork's less than glowing review of the newly released Pixies EP 1 (the 'Fork gave the EP a 1 out of 10). Black Francis revealed he hadn't read the Pitchfork review of the EP, and kind of dryly poked fun at the blog:

"It's a blog, right? It's strictly online...it's called Pitchfork, so to me that says it all. They're a critique blog and they're called Pitchfork...so they've psychologically prepared everyone."

The Pixies were also asked about the departure of Kim Deal, and they said her decision to leave the band threw them "for a loop" but they were able to recover quickly.

Watch the video interview with Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering below. Note that the interview below is an excerpt from a larger interview that WSJ will be posting in full soon.

The Pixies play the Roundhouse in London on September 25th as part of the iTunes Festival and the full show streams live starting at 4pm ET. For more info visit the festival's website.

The Clash box set Sound System was released earlier in the month, and over the last week or so, the surviving members of the band have been doing interviews and promotional events to celebrate the release.  On September 20th, Mick Jones & Paul Simonon answered fan questions during an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit. Scroll through the full archive here, and check out responses to selected questions from the session below:

Recount a favorite anecdote about Joe Strummer:

"I love about Joe about saving a guy drowning. Around the time we started hanging out together. That's just how he was." (Mick Jones)

"We used to write, after the Clash, he used to come up to London and my place. Get a couple bottles of wine and we would lie on either side and spin music through the night. One of us one would fall asleep and the record was still spinning and the empty bottles of wine. Nice shared moments of shared music and just listening to music. We were listening to Lee Hazelwood, Reggae stuff, latin stuff... all sorts of stuff" (Paul Simonon)

Most influential punk band besides the Clash:

"The Slits, The Sex Pistols"

On how Simonon hooked up with Damon Albarn for the side project the Good, the Bad and the Queen:

"I got a phone call, Damon was in the studio working on some ideas. He felt there was something missing. Somehow he came up with with my name. We arranged to meet. Maybe doing some music, let's see how this goes. Then we are on tour, to doing more stuff. Mick came in for the Gorillaz and doing the tour."

On whether there will be any other unreleased Clash material:

"The answer is no."

Most memorable show/performance:

"Hamburg. The 2nd time we played, the audience were frozen the entire show. THe reason was because surrounding them was police with sub machine guns around the audience. Suddenly a human pyramid was created, guys that had come off a British Navy ship. To come see us. Cheering sailors and then the frozen crowd.

"The Beatles played there too, John Lennon used to wear a toilet seat around him in performances."

On the song "Radio Clash"

"Maybe the idea was like going radio to the world at the time. It might be connected partly to London, where we had pirate broadcasts, about communication. The tradition of pirate radio with ships before. Regulations. So many radio stations, the ideal of being a pirate and being connected to the community."

If it was harder to write/sing about poverty & working class after the Clash found fame:

"When you get like money and a big house, it does seem difficult. So don't get any of those things and you should be alright.  It depends on your viewpoint and what you have to say about your environment. After a while we can sing about being on support, but something that we had shared.

It was only a certain amount of stories you can sing about. It's the way you tell them. The stories the remain the same, it's the human experience."

Sound System from the Clash is available to purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

Less than 24 hours after announcing Morrissey's publishing deal with Penguin had been scrapped, it appears the two sides have come to terms and Morrissey's autobiography will indeed be published. True To You posted a brief "clarification" stating that Penguin will be publishing the book in the U.K. within the next few weeks (instead of the original September 16th publish date). Read the clarification below:

"The publication of Morrissey's Autobiography remains with Penguin Books. This is a deal for the UK and Europe, but Morrissey has no contract with a publisher for the U.S. or any other territory. As of 13 September, Morrissey and Penguin (UK) remain determined to publish within the next few weeks."

The original statement from September 12th, which indicated the deal had fallen through is posted below:

"Although Morrissey's Autobiography was set to be available throughout the UK on September 16th, a last-minute content disagreement between Penguin Books and Morrissey has caused the venture to collapse. No review copies were printed, and Morrissey is now in search of a new publisher."

Storms blew through the metro Detroit area on Wednesday night, but that didn't put a damper on the festivities at the Magic Bag in Ferndale. Peter Hook and the Light, who just kicked off the North American leg of his tour, brought the house down playing classic New Order albums Movement and Power, Corruption and Lies to fans in Detroit. And what a show it was!

The night began with opening act Slaves of Venus which --SURPRISE!--was Hooky and the Light performing a short Joy Division set which included "Disorder," "New Dawn Fades," and "Heart & Soul." The band left the stage for a few moments, then returned for the main set: Movement and Power, Corruption and Lies. Hooky played both albums from start to finish, threw in a few New Order rarities ("Homage" and "Cries & Whispers"), and ended the show with a stellar three song encore: "Ceremony," "Temptation," and "Blue Monday."

The show was an unquestionable treat for fans. Though Hooky said very little to the crowd, it was obvious he was having a blast onstage. At times during the show (and especially the encore), he'd step onto an amp while jamming out on bass and fans (including myself) ate it all up. Every now and then he'd mess up the lyrics a bit but no one cared (he had a big lyric book on the stage and flipped the pages between songs, though he didn't really reference it during the songs). At the very end of the show, probably the most unexpected thing ever: Hooky pulled a Morrissey move and ripped off his shirt, then threw it out into the crowd.

Overall this is a must see tour for Joy Division and New Order fans, especially considering most of the material hasn't been played live for YEARS. Critics might say Hooky's vocals sound a bit different than the original recordings, but honestly, he does such a fantastic job musically, that the difference in vocals just doesn't matter. Hooky is outstanding bass player and it's truly magical to see him live in action. Watching him rock out is breathtaking and a massive reminder of what's missing in the current New Order lineup.

Don't miss this tour if it's coming to your city.  Peter Hook is a legend.

Bad news for fans hoping to read Morrissey's much anticipated autobiography. According to True To You, the previously announced publishing deal with Penguin has fallen through:

"Although Morrissey's Autobiography was set to be available throughout the UK on September 16th, a last-minute content disagreement between Penguin Books and Morrissey has caused the venture to collapse. No review copies were printed, and Morrissey is now in search of a new publisher."

Meanwhile, Morrissey's concert film Morrissey 25: Live will be released on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital video in North America on October 22nd. Pre-order the DVD or Blu Ray from Amazon here. Other pre-order options from Eagle Rock Entertainment will be available starting September 27th. Mark Lanegan returns with his covers album Imitations on September 17th in North America and a day earlier in the rest of the world. Lanegan previously stated that he's always wanted to record an album full of songs that give off a vibe similar to classic artists he grew up listening to in the late 60s and 70s. On Imitations Lanegan tackled originals by Nick Cave, Hall & Oates, Greg Dulli/Twilight Singers, John Cale, and songs made famous by Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, and others. Imitations is streaming in full ahead of its release this week over at the Quietus. Pre-order Imitations on iTunes and Amazon and stream the album in full here.

Lanegan previously covered a fantastic version of Willie Nelson's "She's Not For You" for the 1996 tribute album Twisted Willie: A Tribute To Willie Nelson. Check out the official video for "She's Not For You" below:

Peter Hook kicks off his North American tour tomorrow in Boston and ahead of the tour Billboard/The Hollywood Reporter published an interview with the legendary bass player. During the interview Hooky dropped a piece of sad news:  apparently negotiations to obtain the lost Joy Division/New Order Martin Hannett tapes from Julia Adamson (the person who "rescued" the masters) didn't go so well. Hooky told the magazine he offered Adamson a "substantial reward" but she decided the amount wasn't enough:

“It was like someone finding a Pharoah’s tomb,” Hook says. “This cache of Joy Division tapes had been unearthed by this wonderful knight in shining armor. Unfortunately, she’s now holding them ransom.”

Hook also revealed that he's about halfway done with his New Order memoir, and unlike his Joy Division book, this one was somewhat harder mentally for him to write:

"There was a wonkiness about New Order that got worse and worse and worse up until the split. There were a lot of financial problems we had to go through with Factory and The Hacienda. And there were a lot of power struggles within New Order that weren’t very pleasant and aren’t very pleasant to remember."

Read the full interview with Peter Hook over at Billboard/The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, fans of Movement and Power, Corruption and Lies should read Hooky's interview with Vanyaland as most of the interview is about the first two New Order albums (which he'll be performing in full during the North American tour).  Hooky discussed Martin Hannett's production on Movement, said he considers Movement to be a Joy Division record with New Order vocals, and reveals his favorite song to play live is "Leave Me Alone" from Power, Corruption and Lies.  Read the full interview here.

Don't miss Peter Hook live when he plays the Magic Bag in Ferndale on Wednesday. Hooky will also appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on September 12th. The tour itinerary is posted below:

Erasure confirmed the November release of the Christmas album Snow Globe today, and they also shared the cover art for the album (posted above).  The following info was provided in the band's newsletter:

"The new Erasure album will be called Snow Globe, and it's a collection of thirteen original compositions and seasonal classics. The album will be released on 11th November 2013 in the UK, and within a day or two of that date everywhere else. Snow Globe isn't a Christmas album in the traditional sense, and the press release for the album sums it up better than I can by describing the album as being "possessed of something more in the wistfully, strangely subdued celebratory mould of recent seasonal albums by Tracey Thorn and Kate Bush." Not that Snow Globe sounds like either of those records of course, Snow Globe is 110% pure Erasure and I promise that you're going to love it."

The first single from the album is a cover of the Medieval carol, "Gaudete," which will be released prior to Snow Globe (likely sometime in October).  Erasure won't tour to promote the album this year, but they are currently considering tour opportunities in 2014.

Links to purchase Snow Globe will be provided once they are available.  In the meantime, visit the official Erasure site to catch up with the band.

A permanent tribute to Tony Wilson (Factory Records/Hacienda) is coming soon to the city of Manchester. The tribute came about after the idea was proposed to city council bosses by politician John Leech, and according to the Manchester Evening News, the council approved a memorial as part of a new art center development project. The article states that "a street or public square at the First Street cultural hub will be named after the music mogul once the development is complete." The center is expected to be complete in spring 2015. Read the full report here.

So far, Peter Hook is the first member of the Manchester music community to comment on the memorial. He tweeted "this is great news and long overdue." He also recently made the following comments about Tony Wilson and Joy Division in an interview with Noozhawk:

"Tony Wilson was indeed crucial to Joy Division. He believed in us, he backed us, he signed us. Without him it would not have happened. We will all be forever indebted to him."

Another movement is underway to erect a mural or statue in Macclesfield, England to honor Ian Curtis.  Read more about that here, and follow Ian Curtis Statue on Twitter.

UPDATE (September 9th at 10:30 AM): Erasure has confirmed the November release of Snow Globe.

An Erasure fansite is reporting the new Erasure release will be titled Snow Globe and will be released on November 4th.  The website also supplied the following details:

"The album will be Christmas-themed with half of the songs being traditional Christmas songs and half – original Erasure ones. There are few possible reworkings of past Erasure songs to be included on the album – “She Won’t Be Home” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” (both from Erasure’s “Crackers International” EP)."

It should be noted that Erasure has not confirmed any of the info on the fansite, however it's common knowledge that an Erasure holiday album is in the works. The band previously revealed the album will include recordings of standard Christmas songs as well as some originals. Interestingly enough Andy Bell mentioned the band had brought a snow globe into the studio while working on the Christmas songs (see video below) to get into the Christmas spirit while recording in April, so the title seems to make perfect sense. For official Erasure album info, be sure to sign up for the band's newsletter.

Surviving members of the Clash--Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon--are holding a chat with fans September 10th on Twitter. The band are celebrating the release of the massive Clash retrospective Sound System, which arrives that same day.  The chat takes place September 10th at 11:30 am ET (4:30 pm BST) through the Amazon UK twitter account, and fans can submit questions now using #askclash.  Via Antimusic.

Sound System, the epic 12 cd retrospective, includes the band's five studio albums in their original eight disc format; three bonus discs containing rarities, demos, and b-sides; and a DVD with promo videos, live footage, and previously unseen footage by both Don Letts and Julien Temple.  A collection of other items such as reprints of Clash fanzines, posters, stickers, and pins are also included, plus the release comes with an owner's manual, aka a 24 page case-bound book. The tracklisting for the release is available to view on iTunes (takes a few moments to load).

Mick Jones was recently interviewed by Rolling Stone and revealed that fans already familiar with the previous remasters might hear some new things this time around.  Jones explained that the band actually baked the original tapes as part of the remastering process which helped restore the material:

"We did it all from the original tapes. It's really close to when it first came out of the recording studio. It's the closest we got to that...

But you have to bake the tapes before you play them. You can only play them once, because the oxide on the tapes will fall off if you don't do that.

Also, they found that since the last time they were remastered, there's actually a bigger playback head now. So we might have missed music on the edges of the tape. Now we're getting all of it. If you're familiar with the music, you're getting stuff you didn't get before."

Nine Inch Nails followed in the footsteps of Depeche Mode and played an intimate show for 400 fans at the Troubador in Los Angeles last night. The show, celebrating the release of Hesitation Marks, was a private, invite only set -- all the tickets to the gig were given away by NIN and local station KROQ. Nine Inch Nails ripped through a 19 song set and returned for a blistering three song encore. So far not much video has appeared online (let's hope the fans were fully enjoying the show and not watching it through iPhone screens), but get a taste of the magic below.

UPDATE (9/5 @ 4:45 AM): A full audio recording of the show is available to download here.  A sweet collection of pro-shot photos from the show is posted here.

A vintage interview and concert from industrial legends Skinny Puppy has surfaced online. The interview took place prior to the band's show in Winnepeg on December 19th, 1985 and eventually aired along with the concert on the Canadian community access tv show Alternative Rockstand! At that point Skinny Puppy had just released their full length album Bites, which followed the six song EP Remission and super limited edition EP Back & Forth.  The Skinny Puppy episode of Alternative Rockstand includes an introduction by the show host Dan Pachet, who described the concert as "death rock" and "rather depressing music." Pachet warned viewers about the dark quality of the footage and went on to say, "it's not a show for everybody. The people who saw it, some of them actually walked out in the middle of the show, it just wasn't quite for them." Check out the concert and interview below. A second video with just the interview footage is also posted below.  Via Dead Red Velvet.

Concert with Skinny Puppy begins after some educational info on beavers. No, really.

According to reports, a huge bidding war is brewing over a possible David Bowie tour or at least a one-off show. To be clear, Bowie has stated previously that he has no plans to tour:  when he released his surprise album The Next Day back in February, Bowie and his inner circle indicated that there won't be a tour.  Regardless, fans would love nothing more, and apparently lucrative offers are starting to come in.

Today the Mirror is reporting that concert promoter Live Nation has offered Bowie "a multi-million pound offer" for Bowie to play a one-off show at the Olympic Park in East London next year, and the article goes on to claim that AEG is expected to put an offer on the table for that show, or possibly a totally different show in Hyde Park.

So far it appears the lucrative offers won't be enough to change Bowie's mind about touring. The NME reached out to Bowie's management and they told the mag "there are currently no plans for any live dates."

Read the original report in the Mirror (via Music Week).

Bowie's last live appearance was in 2006, and he stopped touring in 2004 after suffering a heart attack.
