Liam Gallagher debuted his new single "Wall of Glass" today on BBC Radio 1. As part of the exclusive first play event, Gallagher joined host Mistajam for a short interview. During the interview he confirmed his debut solo album is called As You Were, and is filled with "rock and roll, in-your-face bangers," though there are also some "calmer" songs. He says as far as the future goes, he's trying to live in the moment  -- do one record, go on tour, do great gigs -- and see what happens next.

He also briefly discussed his relationship with brother Noel who he refers to as "our kid." Liam reveals, "we had some good times...some proper, proper moments" but confirms he currently doesn't speak with Noel and says it's very sad. He does predict that he'll reconcile with Noel eventually if only for his mother's sake.

Stream the audio of the interview over at BBC Radio 1. BBC Radio 1 has also uploaded a video excerpt of the interview which you can view below along with the official "Wall of Glass" video. The single is available to purchase as a digital download through iTunes and Amazon.

Violent Femmes are set to release a new live album 2 Mics & The Truth: Unplugged & Unhinged In America. The collection of live recordings include newly arranged versions of classics, improvisations, spontaneous requests, and songs performed live for the first time. The album was recorded last year at public radio stations and during other promo sessions in support of their ninth studio album We Can Do Anything.

Brian Ritchie reveals in the album's press release:

"This is the first time we've delivered a full scale recording to the public which captures the sound and spirit of the band the way we play together when we're working out songs in the hotel or dressing room. This project refocuses attention upon the repertoire as a whole by stripping songs to their essentials, conveying them without artifice, and removing them from any timeline. It's the closest we've gotten to the essence of Violent Femmes."

The album 2 Mics & The Truth: Unplugged & Unhinged In America arrives July 7th and is available to pre-order here.

Violent Femmes hit the road with Echo & The Bunnymen for a co-headline tour this summer. The Detroit area date is July 18 @ Meadow Brook Amphitheatre. The itinerary is posted below.

Eddie Vedder kicked off a string of solo shows in Amsterdam over the weekend. According to fan reports, Vedder was grieving Chris Cornell's death and the entire show was an emotional tribute to Cornell. Though he never specifically mentioned Cornell by name, he made many references to death, loss, grieving, and healing and it was clear to concertgoers exactly what Vedder was trying to convey. Read a report about the concert here.

If there's any doubt as to how much Vedder loved and respected Cornell, watch the video below. Listen to Vedder's opening comments and how he looks at Cornell before the two perform this beautiful and intense version of "Hunger Strike." This breathtaking video will tear you up.

Liam Gallagher made good on his word this morning and made an announcement -- he'll perform his first solo gig next Tuesday, May 30th. The show takes place at the O2 Ritz in Manchester and will be a benefit to raise money for families that were affected by this week's bombing attack in the city. Gallagher told the Manchester Evening News that he knew he had to step up and help:

"I just knew I had to. I’m not in it for the money. The gig was going to happen anyway and we all have to do what we can. I want to try and help pick people up. People like me, doing what we do, it’s our duty to give people a good time."

Though the world had hoped for an official announcement regarding his debut solo record today, that info is coming very soon. Today Gallagher launched a website today with artwork for a song titled "Wall of Glass," which debuts next week and shared a 30 second snippet of the song on Spotify:

The release of the full single is imminent. Zane Lowe is reportedly premiering the song on his show early next week, while U.K. station Radio X is reporting they'll have their "first play" of the song on Wednesday. iTunes has a listing for a June 2nd digital release for "Wall of Glass," which makes sense that Gallagher would want at least one new song out in advance of his lengthy summer festival itinerary.

UPDATE (5/29/17): The single will premiere worldwide on the BBC Wednesday, May 31st at 2:30 pm ET

The full album is reportedly titled As You Were and will be released in October.

Gallagher hits the road for a handful of solo shows and previously announced festival dates. His sole U.S. appearance takes place at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 3rd.

Liam Gallagher is set to make the big announcement about his debut solo album tomorrow. He's previously said on twitter that the new album is titled As You Were and the debut single is titled "Not For Sale." iTunes has a listing for a Liam Gallagher song titled "Wall of Glass" that goes on sale on June 2nd, so it's possible that 1) "Wall of Glass" isn't the first single, 2) he changed his mind, and/or 3) he's been f-ing with everyone regarding the titles.

In any event, he'll be making an announcement tomorrow. He also appears as the cover boy on the new issue of NME which hits streets in the U.K. tomorrow.

UPDATE (5/26): Gallagher announced a benefit gig in Manchester & shared a snippet of "Wall of Glass." Read the full update here.

UPDATE (5/29): The new single officially premieres on Wednesday, May 30th at 2:30 PM ET on the BBC.

The The released a limited edition 7" single for Record Store Day titled "We Can't Stop What's Coming." The new single was recorded live during Johnson's Radio Cineola broadcast last May (May 2016), as a tribute to Johnson's brother Andrew, who passed away in January of last year (the cover art for the single features drawings found in Andrew's sketchbook). "We Can't Stop What's Coming" is included in the new The The documentary The Inertia Variations and is also slated to be released as part of a larger multi-media project Johnson is working on.

Though Johnson initially told the BBC that he had no plans to release the single digitally, but he has since changed his mind after seeing copies the single being flipped on ebay for ridiculous amounts of money. He wanted to give true fans the opportunity to hear and enjoy "We Can't Stop What's Coming" without being taken advantage of, so the single is now available digitally on iTunes.

Watch the official video for "We Can't Stop What's Coming," which features footage of Andrew (as well as Matt) Johnson and serves as a beautiful and heartfelt tribute.

"We Can't Stop What's Coming" is the third song Johnson has written for a family member. "Love Is Stronger Than Death" was written for Johnson's brother Eugene, and "Phantom Walls" was written as a tribute to his mother.

Heartbreaking and stunning news: Chris Cornell died in Detroit last night. Soundgarden was in town last night and performed a show -- what would be their last show -- at the Fox Theatre. Afterwards details are still developing, but Cornell was later found dead in his hotel room at the MGM Grand. Suicide is the suspected cause of death. An investigation is ongoing. Cornell was 52 years old.

Cornell was and will always be a legend. Cornell's music -- Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, not to mention his solo recordings -- influenced and impacted generations. His voice and glorious music will truly live forever.

I posted a few things in memory of Cornell, including an hour long radio tribute, along with a Cornell Spotify playlist. Additionally some video from Soundgarden's final show is also posted below along with last night's setlist.

A 4K restoration of Sid & Nancy will be released August 22nd by Criterion Collection. Directed by Alex Cox, the cult classic tells the story of Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious & his doomed tumultuous relationship with girlfriend Nancy Spungen. The sex and drugs and punk rock biopic stars Gary Oldman as Sid and Chloe Webb as Nancy (Courtney Love famously has a minor role as Spungen's friend Gretchen). The Sid & Nancy soundtrack is also legendary -- it includes the alternative staple "Love Kills" by Joe Strummer, along with classic tracks from The Pogues, Circle Jerks, and Oldman's version of "My Way" which all too often gets mistaken for Vicious' original by unsuspecting ears.

The restored edition of Sid & Nancy will be available as a 2DVD set or as a 1 disc Blu-ray. The director-approved special edition Blu-ray will feature a ton of exciting bonus material: the uncompressed stereo soundtrack, alternate 5.1 surround soundtrack, two audio commentaries (including commentary from the filmmakers, cultural historians, actors, etc), archival footage and interviews including a rare telephone interview with Vicious, a 1987 documentary on the making of Sid & Nancy, and more. Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher are reportedly working on a potential song for the new James Bond film. Weller revealed in a recent BBC interview that he's interested in doing a Bond theme and he's got some ideas that he's been working on. He told the BBC he has "half a song that me and Noel Gallagher worked on and I think it would be great for a Bond theme. There’s a bit of minor key going on. That would be an ambition definitely."

No announcements have been made about the new Bond film. Keep in mind that even if Weller and Gallagher were commissioned to write a theme there's no guarantee their collaboration would be accepted for the film. Just ask Radiohead -- the Oxford band famously wrote a lush and haunting track titled "Spectre" for the last Bond film, but it was rejected by producers who opted for a mainstream and cheesy Sam Smith song instead.

Paul Weller releases his new album A Kind Revolution tomorrow and heads to North America this autumn. Tickets for all the shows go on sale tomorrow.

Depeche Mode have been letting a different fan "take over" their Facebook page each day to post tributes and share stories. Today professional skater Tony Hawk was honored with the opportunity to take over the page and he did Depeche Mode proud. He not only showered them with high praise, revealing Black Celebration is his "favorite album from top to bottom," but he allowed his friend Trent Reznor to wax poetic. Trent took the ball and ran with it, revealing he was inspired to begin writing Pretty Hate Machine after seeing Depeche Mode on the Black Celebration tour in 1986.

Reznor's glowing tribute is yet another brilliant example of legendary bands inspiring and influencing other artists to go forth and be awesome. Read his posting in full below:

"It was the summer of ’86. I’d dropped out of college and was living in Cleveland trying to find my way in the local music scene. I knew where I wanted to go with my life but I didn’t know how to get there. A group of friends and I drove down to Blossom Music Center amphitheater to see the Black Celebration tour. DM was one of our favorite bands and the Black Celebration record took my love for them to a new level.

I’ve thought about that night a lot over the years. It was a perfect summer night and I was in exactly the right place I was supposed to be. The music, the energy, the audience, the connection… it was spiritual and truly magic. I left that show grateful, humbled, energized, focused, and in awe of how powerful and transformative music can be… and I started writing what would eventually become Pretty Hate Machine.

Many times, particularly when we’re playing an amphitheater, I’ll think of that show while I’m onstage and hope someone in the audience is in the midst of a perfect summer night feeling how DM made me feel so many years ago."

Hawk also posted tributes to Depeche Mode written by Cold Cave mastermind Wesley Eisold and artist Inocente.

On November 19th, 1981 New Order performed a gig at Ukrainian National Home in New York. The show was captured live by Michael Shamberg and was later released by Factory as New Order's first video release, Taras Shevchenko. As Peter Hook remembers in his memoir Substance: Inside New Order:

"It was the last gig on that US tour and recorded at a Ukraine National Home, not a normal gig venue...it wasn't a great gig. I remember the hall being so big and noisy; it ruined everything. It was quite a restrained performance..."

Peter Hook may not think it was a great gig, but New Order fans worldwide beg to differ. This is a truly amazing (yes, raw, but amazing) video of a band that was still developing both in the studio and on stage (not to mention still reeling from the loss of Ian Curtis).

This show took place the day New Order released their debut full length album Movement, and includes cuts off the album as well as their previously issued singles "Ceremony" and "Procession" along with their (at the time) soon to be issued single "Everything's Gone Green." One of the true highlights is the raw version of "Temptation," which at that point had made its live debut only two months earlier and was still a work in progress ("Temptation" would not be released until 1982).

Watch the glorious concert below (the audio portion in the video was remastered by RK Music Produktion)

01. 00:00 Chosen Time
02. 04:05 Dreams never end
03. 07:20 Everything's Gone Green
04. 12:35 Truth
05. 17:15 Senses
06. 21:50 Procession
07. 25:50 Ceremony

Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill died last November, and recently an inquest into his death took place in Manchester. The Guardian reported that at the inquest Gill's wife, Rose Marie, revealed that her husband had been suffering from tinnitus and took his own life. She went on to explain that his tinnitus was so unbearable he felt there was no cure. He also suffered from sleep deprivation and anxiety due to the tinnitus, but was unable to reach out for help.

Inspiral Carpets members Graham Lambert, Stephen Holt and Clint Boon attended the inquest and during the proceedings Boon read a prepared statement:

"We will always remember Craig for his great sense of humour, his passion for music, his incredible skills as a musician and his devotion to his family.

Craig was a friend, a loyal son and brother, philosophical father and important member of our gang. We feel extremely privileged to have spent the last 30 years making music with him."

Gill's death was recorded as hanging and the inquest returned an open conclusion. Read the full report over at The Guardian
