From a Times Staff Writer

Yikes. Be on the lookout for this:

From Contact:

Heavy rock group THE COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINERS are using the latest scratch-and-sniff technology to give their new album the whiff of rotting meat. The US trio's album, OLIDOUS OPERETTAS, will come with the aroma of decaying flesh. Frontman MORTON FAIRBANKS explains, "It will be a scented-face CD, which essentially means it will be scratch-'n'-sniff-able... Our CD will smell like rotten meat." The singer admits his smelly idea was deemed more than a little unsavoury by many of the record labels he approached with a view to releasing the album. He adds, "Most of the companies refused to work with me, but Sony has this technology that allows you to infuse scents into a CD, and they finally agreed to do one that smells like rotten meat... The album's gonna stink."

Linkin Park has announced that their new cd will be released on May 15th. The new disc is called Minutes To Midnight, and the first single is called, "What I've Done." 89x will debut the new single soon, so keep an ear close to the radio!

The band spent 14 months in the studio working on Minutes To Midnight, and they actually worked on over 100 song demos before they cranked out the final cut. Chester Bennington calls the cd a "breakthrough in the development of the band's sound."

In addition, Bennington recently did an interview with mtv and disclosed the meaning of Minutes To Midnight.

“The title is a reference to the Doomsday Clock, which was created by these scientists at the University of Chicago after the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Japan to end World War II.

"Given the idea that mankind now had this ultimate destructive power, they were contemplating what the repercussions of this would be and the idea that the end of the world could be imminent.”

He elaborated: "After WWII, when the Soviet Union tested their first bomb, the Doomsday Clock was set. It basically has hands from the 45-minute mark until midnight ... and at 45 past the hour, it means the world is relatively stable, but since we have this [nuclear] power, we're always just 15 minutes away from the end of the world.

"And when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were involved in their nuclear standoff in the 1960s, the clock was set at three minutes to midnight. And it's moved back and forth about 18 times since its inception. Right now we're at five minutes until midnight."

Chaos broke out at the Taste of Chaos tour last Thursday in Texas. 30 Seconds to Mars was onstage playing when vocalist Jared Leto decided to take a little run through the crowd. The experience wasn't a gentle one. Jared emerged from the crowd with a busted nose, injured foot, and countless scrapes and bruises. It was pretty ugly.

Taste of Chaos tour organizer Kevin Lyman said in a statement, "I've been producing shows for 25 years and this was one of the scariest moments I have witnessed."

Even though Jared was bloody and busted, the band carried on like pros. The band finished its set and decided not to cancel any future appearances on Taste of Chaos.

In other news, bassist Matt Wachter has left the band. It's unclear whether Thursday's events freaked him out, or if perhaps it was just his time to go. Regardless, Wachter has left the band, and the band claims it was an amicable split.

Carry On contains 14 tracks including a stripped down acoustic cover of the old Michael Jackson classic, "Billie Jean."
