Check out the 8 minute video for "AKA...What A Life" by Noel Gallagher below. The video picks up where "The Death Of You & Me" leaves off, and it even "stars" Russell Brand (not necessarily a selling point). The debut cd from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will drop October 17th in the U.K., and November 8th in North America.

Portishead is kicking off a month long North American tour tonight in New Jersey as they headline I'll Be Your Mirror (part of All Tomorrow's Parties festival). Portishead co-curated I'll Be Your Mirror, and a few months ago they even put together a free 2.5 hour mixtape featuring some of the bands playing (which you can still download for free here or just listen to it below.)
Portishead's tour will stop through New York later in the week then they'll be routed through Canada and so on. Of course they won't be stopping by Detroit, so be sure to catch 'em on Fallon this Wednesday night.

Radiohead played a very sold out show at the Roseland in New York City last night. Kid Rock was even in the crowd visibly singing to the band's performance (sure, Chris Martin was there too, but isn't KR more of a shocker?) You can read the New York Times' review of the show here. Last week, Rolling Stone asked readers to choose their favorite R.E.M. songs of all time, and today the results of the poll were published. Not surprisingly, the top 10 songs are mainly the band's biggest hits, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (full disclosure: I seriously love all the songs on the list except for #4, and I have no idea why I've never liked that song.) Chris Cornell will be playing the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor on December 4th, however the ticket info has changed. More news on the Cure today: first we learned the band was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 2012, and now the band has confirmed the last handful of dates on their Reflections tour. This tour features the Cure playing their first three albums (Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Faith in their entirety.) As it turns out, the lucky, lucky, peeps in New York and L.A. get multiple Cure dates, while all the other chopped liver areas around the U.S. and Canada get shut out (again). If you're up for a road trip, dates have been posted here and tickets go on sale September 30th. If it's any consolation, I'd bet at least one of these shows will be filmed for a future DVD release, although they did already release a live Trilogy DVD a few years ago.

Radiohead performed on Saturday Night Live last night. You can watch "Lotus Flower" and "Staircase" here (via NME). Peter Hook has been on tour with his band The Light playing classic Joy Division records Unknown Pleasures and Closer. A few weeks ago the tour was in New York and Moby joined Hooky on stage for the encore. Last night the tour was in Chicago and hours before word leaked that Billy Corgan would be joining Hooky on stage for a couple of songs. Check out Corgan belting out "Transmission" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart."
Another highlight of the show was "Ceremony" which you can watch here.

Jack White isn't in town, plus he's currently out of his mind (seriously, Jack, ICP???). Iggy Pop isn't in town but he would have been an awesome choice. Other huge Detroit names like Kid Rock, Eminem, or Aretha would be a trainwreck (though I'd pay huge money to see Aretha attempt it). Maybe Windsor's Daniel Victor from Neverending White Lights or the guys from Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr? Ah well, a Detroit show is not gonna happen anyway, but fun food for thought...

Lots of Radiohead news today, and it's really exciting if you live in New York (lucky bastards!) Radiohead will be in New York later this week for the season premiere of Saturday Night Live and while in town they're going to make the most of it. Next Monday (September 26th) they'll appear on the Colbert Report, then on September 28th and 29th they'll play shows at Roseland Ballroom. Ticket info can be obtained here.

The Jesus & Mary Chain are reissuing ALL of their cds over the next couple of weeks as 2 CD/1 DVD sets. Take a look at all the reissue goodness here. Just a head's up though, these are U.K. imports, which means if you try to buy them directly from the band's site (via U.K. e-tailers) you'll have to convert currency and pay those pesky international $hipping rate$. But there's an easier (and cheaper) way: if you want the reissues, just wait another week or so and buy them (as imports) from Amazon with free shipping to boot. Radiohead's "Exit Music (For A Film)" is one of my all time favorite Radiohead songs. A documentary about the Oxford music scene, Anyone Can Play Guitar-The Oxford Music Scene Documentary, will be released on October 31st. New Musical Express has already sang praises about the film, calling it "one of the 10 vital music docs of 2011." Anyone Can Play Guitar features music from influential bands out of Oxford, England, such as Ride, Radiohead, Swervedriver, Supergrass, and the Candy Skins.

After shooting, director Jon Spira ran into some financial issues which led to the film's delay, but after a successful online fundraising campaign, the film is indeed ready for a proper release on DVD. The lucky peeps in the U.K. will also have the opportunity to attend screenings on the indie cinema tour, which also promises some live musical performances from Oxford bands past and present. Ordering info is forthcoming, so be sure to keep an eye on the film's official website and Facebook page.

Back a few months ago, Rhino U.K. announced plans to release a super duper Smiths collection, The Smiths-Complete, which you can still pre-order from Rhino U.K. here. New Order announced today that they're reforming for a couple of benefit shows this fall. I'm not sure it should really be called a reunion, because while Gillian Gilbert will be taking part, bassist and founding member, Peter Hook most certainly will not. Hooky will be busy playing classic Joy Division albums on his Unknown Pleasures/Closer tour, but I'm also guessing he wasn't asked to be a part of the N'Order reunion anyway.

Iggy Pop sustained multiple fractures to his leg in Romania on August 27th after tripping over a microphone stand on stage. Iggy has been sidelined for at least six to eight weeks while the injuries heal. Consequently, the four shows the Stooges had lined up for later this month have been canceled.

Check out "If I Had A Gun" by Noel Gallagher below. Gallagher premiered the new song this morning on KROQ in Los Angeles, then announced a handful of dates for a North American mini-tour. The tour will be stopping by Toronto, NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The dates are all listed here with ticket info, and it shouldn't be a big surprise that he's only playing a few cities. Back at his press conference in July he said he'd be hitting a handful of cities at the end of 2011 with a full tour to kick off in 2012.
Liam Gallagher told BBC Radio 1 yesterday that his legal battle against brother Noel isn't over yet:

Alan Wilder from Depeche Mode and Recoil is holding an auction next weekend (September 3rd) in Manchester, England. Wilder is auctioning off historical equipment, cds, vinyl, and other memorabilia. Watching Cocker sing right to Julian Casablancas makes this video even that more fabulous. Casablancas seems a little awkward with it at first, but eventually seems to have fun with it. Liam Gallagher has dropped his lawsuit against brother Noel according to this article in the Sun. Noel made an apology of sorts during his webchat on Monday, and it appears that was enough for Liam to drop the whole (silly) thing. Now if they would only let more bygones be bygones and reunite Oasis...

The Sonic Youth collection Hits Are For Squares will be re-released tomorrow. The cd originally had a limited edition run some years ago, but tomorrow you'll be able to grab it pretty much anywhere. Hits Are For Squares is essentially a handful of Sonic Youth songs selected by celebrities (musicians & actors) such as Eddie Vedder, Mike D, Radiohead, Beck, Flea, the Flaming Lips, and more.
A couple of Morrissey fansites are battling it out in an effort to become the number one Morrissey news site. This website is relaunching and if you click over, you can read all the drama about their quest to become top dog.
At 9pm tonight, Noel Gallagher will be posting the webchat he held with fans earlier today on his official YouTube channel.

Back in July, Noel Gallagher held a press conference to discuss his new project, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. During the conference (and in subsequent interviews) Noel discussed the Oasis split and events that took place surrounding the split. Now it looks like Liam Gallagher is suing Noel over the comments that were made. Is this an attempt to keep Liam's new band, Beady Eye, in the press or does Liam truly feel he's been defamed? I guess we'll have to see how this all plays out...

Al Jourgensen has decided to resurrect Ministry! Ministry will release a new cd, Relapse, this fall, plus there will be a short tour to follow. Dates haven't been announced yet, but we will keep you posted. You can read about Jourgensen's decision to reunite the band plus his recent health scare right here.

Rhino U.K. posted a pretty cool documentary from 1992 about the Smiths. The documentary was originally given out to members of the British press almost 20 years ago to help promote the band's greatest hits collection they released that year. Fast forward to 2011--a new Smiths collection is coming out--a massive limited edition box set titled The Smiths Complete will drop on October 3rd (on import only). The episode of Innovators in Music featuring Sonic Youth will air on the Documentary Channel August 20th at 9pm ET, and will repeat August 27th at 1am ET. This series originally aired on Bravo in Canada last year, and was recently picked up the Documentary Channel in the U.S. Check out the promo for the Sonic Youth episode below:

Morrissey has never shied away from making controversial comments during his lengthy career. Recently he uttered a doozy of a comment about Norway at a concert in Poland. Morrissey was about to play the Smiths' classic, "Meat is Murder" but before he played the song he allegedly said:
"We all live in a murderous world as the events in Norway have shown...though that is nothing compated to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried **** every day."

Today Spin revealed more details regarding the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's cd Nevermind. As previously mentioned, Nevermind will be reissued September 27th in a variety of formats: a single edition cd, 2 cd deluxe edition, 4 cd/1 dvd box set, and 4-LP 180 gram vinyl edition. A Jane's Addiction concert will stream live starting at 9pm ET/6pm PT tonight! The show, Jane's Addiction Comes Alive, will be streaming live from Terminal 5 in New York City right here. You'll be able to see the concert in 3D, plus you can choose from three different camera feeds. Next month a documentary featuring the 3D concert will be available to view on the YouTube channel, so make sure to stop back on August 4th.
Nick Cave's classic song, "the Ship Song" has been reworked by a collection of musicians and opera singers as a tribute to the iconic Sydney Opera House (pictured below). It's been out of print for quite a while, but soon a pretty sweet Sonic Youth compilation will get a new lease on life. Hits Are For Squares is a collection of Sonic Youth songs compiled by musical luminaries such as Eddie Vedder, Radiohead, Beck, Flea, Mike D, the Flaming Lips, and others. John Lydon's London home was recently ruined by fire. The fire was believed to be started by a malfunctioning clothes dryer. Lydon's wife was at home when the fire broke out, luckily she was able to escape unharmed. Unfortunately the Lydon's million dollar plus home wasn't insured! Read about the drama here.
MTV's old school alternative video show, 120 Minutes, is set to return to MTV2 next Saturday night. The show originally aired in the late 80's all the way through the early 2000's, and was finally axed after MTV became a reality show network. At any rate, the show will be resurrected and will air on MTV2 on the last Saturday of every month. The first episode is set to air Saturday night (well, really Sunday morning at 1am--so it's on Saturday night/Sunday morning), and will be hosted by Matt Pinfield. This Saturday's episode will feature interviews with David Grohl, Dangermouse & Daniele Luppi, Kings of Leon, PJ Harvey, Sleigh Bells, and more. 120 Minutes will also be available to view on MTV.com.
