Morrissey's tour axed & DVD screening info announced

Morrissey has announced that his South American tour has been axed after being fraught with issues.  Apparently this time, the cancellation is due to funding issues and the dates will NOT be rescheduled.  Read his official statement on the matter below:

"I am informed today that the projected tour of South America is snuffed out, thus euthanized - due, I'm reliably advised, to lack of funding. It's quite easy to sell tickets, yet impossible to transport band and crew from F to G.

In a year when far too many disappointments have been buried this really is the last of many final straws, and I am not alone in feeling this. The future is suddenly absent, and my apologies are now so frequent as to be somewhat ridiculous, and it is I who apologize because no one else would bother. It is agonizing to be responsible for imparting such news - especially when it springs upon me unexpectedly and inexplicably. But the collapse of South America rings the curtain down with a colossal thud, and the major problems remain as insoluble now as they were in 2009. The obvious conclusion stares back at me from the mirror, and the wheels are finally off the covered wagon. Cancellations and illness have sucked the life out of all of us, and the only sensible solution seems to be the art of doing nothing.

As always I ask your pardon, and I offer pangs of overwhelming love and gratitude to the band and the crew, whose loyalty stretched above and beyond.

Meanwhile screening dates for Morrissey's live concert DVD Morrissey 25: Live are slowly rolling in. A list of theaters and showtimes in the U.K. is posted here. As for North America, the film will screen one night only - most of the participating theaters are screening the film on August 29th, but there are a few listings for other dates (theaters pick the screening date, so be sure to read the listings for the theater in your city closely.) A list of participating theaters is posted below via Last of the Famous International Playboys. More theaters are expected to be announced in the coming days/weeks, so stay tuned.

OMD cancels 2013 tour

OMD's drummer, Malcolm Holmes was taken to the hospital last night in Toronto. He's expected to make a full recovery, however OMD has canceled ALL of their live dates for the remainder of the year, which includes the Detroit date which was scheduled for tonight at St. Andrew's Hall. Read the band's official statement below:

We are sorry to inform you that Malcolm was taken ill during last nights show in Toronto. He's currently being treated for heat exhaustion in hospital but is recovering well. Sadly however we have to cancel the remaining shows of the year (including Rewind festival). Please accept our sincere apologies, we really appreciate your understanding at this very difficult time. We will give you more news on Malcolm as and when.

Mark Gardener (ex-Ride) & Robin Guthrie to release new LP

Mark Gardener from Ride will be releasing a new album this year. In a May interview with Stereoboard Gardener revealed he recorded several more tracks with Robin Guthrie (they released a single last year "The Places We Go") and the collaborative album will likely be out in September or October:

"I've just listened to the rough mixes of all the tracks and I'm totally buzzed up with it. It's one of the best albums I have ever been involved in. I'm looking forward to releasing and playing more shows with Robin and the band."

During the interview, Stereoboard also asked Gardener what his favorite Ride song is:

"I don't really know what my favourite Ride song is but playing it live it always used to be 'Leave Them All Behind' as this, along with a few other songs in the set, gave me a transcendental kind of taking off with the crowd feeling."

Grant Hart returns with double LP 'The Argument'

Grant Hart returns with a double album, The Argument, based on John Milton's epic Paradise Lost on July 23rd. Stream the first single, "Is The Sky The Limit?" below:



Ahead of the album's release Hart was interviewed by The Fly. As always, Hart had a lot of interesting things to say.  He re-affirmed there won't be a  Hüsker Dü reunion***:

"First off, it would be a move motivated only by the wrong reasons. I’m afraid it would overshadow the good work we’re doing without that band’s name."

He also said part of the reason Hüsker Dü broke up was because Bob Mould's affinity for R.E.M.'s sound:

"they had such an influence on what Bob was trying to write after that."

Hart called Dave Grohl "a piece of shit" and though he didn't expound too much on that, he seemed to have an issue with Grohl's business practices.  Read The Fly's interview with Grant Hart here.

Mazzy Star share new song & announce new LP

Mazzy Star return with a full length new album titled Seasons of Your Day on September 24th. The news of the album shouldn't be too shocking to fans - back in 2011 Mazzy Star released two songs, "Common Burn" and "Lay Myself Down," (which both appear on the upcoming album) and last year they performed at a few festivals, including Coachella and Primavera Sound. On the other hand, it IS the band's first full length album since 1996, which almost rivaled My Bloody Valentine territory (though in Mazzy Star's defense, they never taunted fans like Kevin Shields).

Along with the album news, Mazzy Star also debuted a song from Seasons of Your Day - stream "California" below:

Ian Curtis inspired sunglasses by Ghostly + Warby Parker

Ghostly International has been home to some of the most creatively innovative musicians and artists around since 1999.  Ghostly's latest endeavor is a partnership with eyewear company Warby Parker.  The two recently announced they've teamed up to create a new collection of sunglasses.  One pair in the collection is titled Curtis - inspired by Ian Curtis, the late singer of Joy Division.  How does it all relate?  Founder of Ghostly, Sam Valenti IV, sees a pretty major parallel between enveloping yourself in music and throwing on a fantastic new pair of new shades:

David Bowie returns with the new single "Valentine's Day." The track will be released as a 7" picture disc backed with the instrumental track "Plan" on August 20th in North America (August 19th in Europe). Today Bowie premiered the video for "Valentine's Day" - check it out below:

Adam Ant released the new album Adam Ant is The BlueBlack Hussar In Marrying The Gunners Daughter in January.  According to Ant, the album title in part refers to his experience with major labels (the phrase "marrying the gunner's daughter" is a naval term for punishment).  Some of the album was recorded at Boz Boorer's home studio.  [Boorer worked with Adam Ant previously and is best known as Morrissey's guitarist.]

New Dawn Fades: The Story of Joy Division

A stage play inspired by a classic photo of Joy Division opened as part of Manchester's Greater Fringe Festival last night (Ian Curtis' birthday).   The production, New Dawn Fades: The Story of Joy Division, was written by actor/artist Brian Gorman, who recently explained to the Manchester Evening News that the play isn't a Joy Division tribute:

"It's definitely NOT a tribute - it's about the people...my play combines the band's history with the history of Manchester and Salford taking inspiration from Curtis's enigmatic lyrics.

This is the classic story of 4 ordinary lads who, inspired by the punk revolution of the 1970s, came together to form one of the most influential bands of all time."

New Dawn Fades: The Story of Joy Division runs for a three-day limited engagement.  Tickets for the production sold out well in advance, and proceeds benefit MIND (mental help non-profit organization in the U.K.).

Gorman is also reportedly releasing a graphic novel based around the same concept as the stage play in August.

Morrissey comments on "corrosively toxic food poisoning" drama

Morrissey finally commented publicly on the recent South American tour drama and his bout of food poisoning.  He revealed it was a tomato/pasta dish that wreaked havok, and the whole ordeal forced him back to Los Angeles where he underwent five days of "round-the-clock" medical attention to get him back to health.   Read the full statement below or over at True To You:

"I can't give words to the sorrow I feel at the loss of perfect Peru. Oh, black cloud. After such a victorious and uplifting welcome of Lima love, the contaminated jinx had its way via a simple restaurant meal of penne pasta and tomato. Three hours later, both I, and security Liam have collapsed with a deadly and delirious bedridden disease. Five days of round-the-clock medical supervision just barely controls the corrosively toxic food poisoning. I know my luck too well. Sorrow replaces joy, and in every dream home a heartache. It could only be me.

I have returned to Los Angeles and to the expert supervision of my doctor Jeremy Fine, who assures me that I shall be fine (although not in the gossamer, powdery sense) for our upcoming shows in Argentina and Brazil. I have absolutely no idea where my beloved Chile has gone. In the heat of cancellations and postponements, the humiliation and mortification I feel on a personal level is too mammoth to be measured. If my spirits climb down any lower I could never again find the dignity to stand upright. We all live at the mercy of biological chance, and although I am not one to take refuge in clichés, I repeat my very servile apologies to any and all who back-packed their way to Peru. Alas, the dark shadow made the same journey.

Each year of life brings us nearer to our decline, but I will continue to seek a listener until I'm dead in a ditch."

As Morrissey indicated above, he'll return to South America at the end of the month for dates in Argentina and Brazil. From Morrissey's posting, it seems the axed Chile dates are in limbo, though the promoter for the Chile shows, Color Chile, recently announced the scrapped shows will be made up in August after the Brazil shows.  Stay tuned for more updates on the situation.

Morrissey postponed dates to take place in August

UPDATE (7/13 @ 8am): Morrissey commented on the food poisoning ordeal.  In a posting on True To You he detailed his bout with food poisoning (took five days of round the clock medical attention to nurse him back to health) and confirmed he'll be back on the road for Argentina & Brazil dates, but has not announced what will come of the shows he missed in Lima and Peru.

On July 9th Morrissey's South American tour was scheduled to kick off in Lima, Peru. Hours before the show concert promoter Colors Chile announced the tour dates were postponed due to a food poisoning issue and Morrissey's crew were headed back to England. There was some confusion over the tour postponement, as it initially seemed the entire South American tour was postponed, however on July 10th, Tickets For Fun, the concert promoter for the Brazil shows, made clear that those shows were NOT postponed.

Today Colors Chile posted another statement (via Morrissey Solo) that reveals the make up dates for the postponed shows will take place in August sometime after the Brazil shows are over. Read part of the translated statement below and read the full version here (translated here).

"...the agenda would continue with the concerts in Brazil on July 30, August 2 and August 4.

In Chile it is confirmed that their concerts will be held in August immediately after Brazil, said Rodrigo Perez, director of Colors Chile, however still working on the exact dates, which should be confirmed by the artist within the next few days - the logistics of coordinating the 7 concerts scheduled in the country."

J Mascis is joining Mudhoney atop the Space Needle in Seattle this afternoon for a live performance. Today's event serves as the kickoff event for Sub Pop's Silver Jubilee celebration, which runs through July 13th. Today's historic performance will be broadcast live on KEXP starting at 3pm ET (noon PT). Morrissey 25: Live website + tour update

Eagle Rock Entertainment launched an official website for Morrissey's upcoming live concert film Morrissey 25: Live. So far screening dates for the film have not been announced, but fans can sign up for the email list to receive updates.



Meanwhile, on July 9th Morrissey's South American tour dates were postponed due to a food poisoning issue. The initial postponement announcement came from Colors Chile, who is the promoter for most of the shows on the tour. As it turned out, the concert promoter for the shows in Argentina and Brazil (Tickets For Fun) has announced that THOSE shows are still on and tickets are available. The following shows have NOT been postponed:

Al Jourgensen: "Voices Carry" was written about me

Ministry kingpin Al Jourgensen just published his memoirs Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen. To say it's a super-entertaining read (you'd expect nothing less from Uncle Al) would be a major understatement. One kernel of awesomeness from the book: Jourgensen reveals (page 53, if you're interested) that back in the day when he lived in Boston he had a relationship with Aimee Mann before she formed 'Til Tuesday. As he tells it, Mann was living with another man who she was having an on and off relationship with. According to Jourgensen, he and Mann hooked up for awhile, but eventually she broke it off. The two stayed in touch and some years later she told Jourgensen 'Til Tuesday's hit song "Voices Carry" was about him. Al writes:

"Voices Carry" was about me, which is really flattering even though it's kind of about a fucked up relationship. But I guess maybe that's what we had.

Who knew?



UPDATE: MTV Hive published an interview with Jourgensen today and interviewer Eric Spitznagel (who is impressively knowledgeable about Wax Trax!, Ministry, and the Revolting Cocks), brought up the "Voices Carry" issue. Jourgensen re-affirmed the song is about him, but also he claims he's never heard the song! Check out the awesome interview over at MTV Hive.

If you're a Ministry fan and haven't checked out Jourgensen's book yet, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. One of the best chapters is on the With Sympathy era. Jourgensen talked about being broke and dumpster diving while on tour as the opener for acts including the Police, Depeche Mode, Madness, Culture Club, and A Flock of Seagulls (he also claims most of the headline acts wouldn't talk to him). As he's stated many times over the years, he was interested in making his own blend of music (dark edgy electronic), which wasn't what was in line with what Arista's Clive Davis wanted. He claimed Davis lured him into Arista by telling him he could be "the next Joy Division" but then Arista wanted something completely different.  After he decided to leave the label, he sued to get out of the contract and Davis tried to get him to stay - Davis even went so far as to get the Thompson Twins to call him up to try to talk some sense into him! Ah yes, good times.

Anyway, it's a great book and definitely a must-read for any Ministry fan.

Nirvana vintage video - 1988 Radio Shack gig + promo video

Two vintage Nirvana videos are making the rounds today. The first is Nirvana's 1988 performance filmed at a Radio Shack in Aberdeen in 1988. As the story goes, Kurt Cobain asked an acquaintance Eric Carter, who managed the Radio Shack, to videotape his band performing after hours in the store.  The video was shot on a camcorder without any effects (other than the blowing of cigarette smoke to give a "heavy metal" look to the performance).  Portions of the original video originally aired as part of a television report on Nirvana in the days after Cobain's death in 1994.  The version of the video below was taken and edited from that tv broadcast.  Enjoy all the goodness below (via XFM)



The other Nirvana video that surfaced today is a vintage promo video for Nirvana's 1993 album In Utero. The video stars Bobcat Goldthwait giving birthing/delivery advice to Kurt, Krist, and Dave. Nirvana posted the clip today to officially announce they're releasing a 20th anniversary reissue of In Utero in September. Details on the reissue are forthcoming, but in the meantime enjoy the bizarre video below:

Richard Ashcroft to release new music in September

Richard Ashcroft will return with new music later this year. Yesterday he was on BBC Radio 6 to announce he's playing an upcoming acoustic set July 20th at the U.K.'s Latitude Festival, and during the interview he revealed he's been busy creating new music. According to Ashcroft a new song should be released in September:

"Should be getting the first potential tune out in September and we'll see where we go from there but, you know as always that I'm just putting everything into it and see what happens."

Ashcroft briefly mentioned his last music output The United Nations of Sound and claimed the record didn't get much attention because it "wasn't written by Damon Albarn or someone like that," but he's ok with that:

"Richard Ashcroft's never been in fashion. I never wanna be in fashion I always want to be out with time and the bond I have with my fans because of that is so strong that there ain't many other artists who have that. Because a lot of other artists, they feed off, they feed off being in the right place at the right time and it's very important. But sustain yourself to still be able to play a gig 15, 20 years later, and have people sing your songs. There's something beyond fashion, flavor of the month, so for me it's really exciting to to have been in such a big band...you know, the right people know who I am, the right people dislike me, the right people like me.  I'm in a really good place at the minute so it's exciting."

Don't go expecting a Verve reunion - when the BBC's Lauren Laverne asked about the possibility of a Verve reunion, Ashcroft shot that down and explained that he's not a fan of nostalgia acts, mostly because it's making things harder for newer bands:

"No it's not happening...the whole nostalgia thing is getting very suffocating and it's difficult for younger acts, especially the festivals, if you look at some of the lineups you know, the lineups - I'm not ageist by any means - but what I'm saying is if it's dominated by nostalgia then we need the youth to create their own version of what potentially may be nostalgia but they don't have a place to do that...the big monster dinosaur acts mopping up all the money."

Morrissey dates in South America postponed

UPDATE: (7/12 @ 5:30 am) - According to Colors Chile, (via Morrissey Solo) the postponed dates will take place in August sometime after the Brazil shows are over.  Dates/info to be announced shortly.

UPDATE: (7/10 @ 8:30 pm) - According to a posting on Peru.com (via Morrissey News and Morrissey Peru), Morrissey's shows scheduled for Brazil have NOT been affected by yesterday's postponement. The shows that are currently still scheduled (at least for now) include:

Morrissey's South American tour has been postponed according to Colors Chile, the promoter of the tour.  A statement was posted on Facebook indicating the tour has been postponed due to a food poisoning episode involving members of the band.  The statement reports that the band has left Lima and the shows are expected to be rescheduled at a later time.  So far an official statement on the matter from Morrissey's publicist has not been released.  Read the translated version of the promoter's statement below (via this report which was accessed via Morrissey News).

"ARE DEFERRED CONCERTS MORRISSEY IN SOUTH AMERICA

Because food poisoning suffered in Lima by artist and part of the team that accompanies it, the concerts scheduled for Latin America are postponed. The new dates will be communicated shortly.

A severe food poisoning suffered by the artist and part of his team, which is located in Lima, Peru, from July 1-forced to postpone all scheduled presentations by Morrissey in South America.

Medically indicated, those affected have remained at rest and observation. For increased safety and confidence in the evolution of his health, the artist traveled to England to be controlled by their personal physicians

The representatives of the artist, as he personally, feel very sorry for this episode. Morrissey and his musicians were very excited about this comeback and so he saw every day that has remained in Lima, where he could share with his fans very closely.

This unfortunate situation experienced by British musician, forced to postpone the dates of the concerts in Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

International production has decided to give a new date for this tour, information that will be delivered as soon as possible.
The return of the tickets will be in accordance with the statement delivered each sale systems in different countries.

Those who maintain an intention to hold the new dates for this tour will, retain their tickets, which will be updated in due course.

Regarding the free concert in Chile at the Movistar Arena, the lottery process and swap tickets normally continue waiting for the new date."

Morrissey set for grand live return in Lima

UPDATE: Sadly, it appears the South American tour has been postponed.

Morrissey is set to return to the stage tonight for his first live show since March. All eyes are focused on the Lima, Peru kickoff, especially after Morrissey revealed more about the illness that caused him to cancel his North American tour earlier this year.  [In January, Moz abruptly canceled his Detroit area gig (Flint, Mi) and was admitted to a hospital in Royal Oak. Morrissey later returned to the stage, however he eventually took ill again and finally canceled the rest of his tour dates in March.]  Morrissey explained to Latercera what happened in the hours prior to canceling the Flint show in a recent interview (for perspective, note that Morrissey played January 22nd in Columbus, Ohio, and the next scheduled show was January 24th in Flint):

"I played in January in Ohio, and I was perfect, but the next night at the hotel collapsed. I lost consciousness and when I recovered, it was covered in black blood and did not know what it was. I was taken to a hospital quickly discovered I had an ulcer, Barrett's esophagus, and then all finished in double pneumonia. I spent over four weeks with serum, but I refused a blood transfusion. I managed to do some more shows in the U.S., but when I arrived in Mexico the doctors told me to stop. Not being able to finish the tour was devastating, but doctors warned me: 'A few weeks ago you almost died, and now you say you'll do 18 shows more? Are you trying to kill you? '. In fact, I think that was what I was doing."

Since scrapping the North American tour, Morrissey has been quietly spending time recovering, though he has been spotted or photographed at events/shows including Queens of the Stone Age, Scott Weiland, Aviva Stadium with Robbie Keane, and hanging out with Tom Jones & Mel Gibson. Tonight's gig kicks off a string of dates in South America and perhaps if things go well (health-wise), more shows in other areas could very well be announced.

So far Morrissey has been welcomed with open arms in Peru, and he's offered up some kind words to the locals:

"I am humbled beyond belief by the reception here in Lima, Peru, and also by the ongoing welcome. For me, it is incredible - once more. If Chile, Argentina and Brazil are as giving, I shall ask no more and die happy. Peru, Peru - my heart's lighthouse."

Electronic: Bernard Sumner reunites with Johnny Marr

New Order and Johnny Marr played a few shows together in North America in the spring, and Electronic fans had been hoping for some sort of reunion, but were left disappointed. Finally, an Electronic reunion of sorts happened yesterday in Macclesfield, U.K. after both acts performed at the New Order curated Transmission outdoor festival at Jodrell Bank. Bernard Sumner joined Marr near the end of his set for a performance of Electronic's "Getting Away With It." Morrissey pens intro to 'In The Words of Sparks... Selected Lyrics'

Sparks (aka Ron and Russell Mael) are set to release a lyric book,  In The Words of Sparks...Selected Lyrics, which includes lyrics to 75 of their songs. Though the full listing of songs hasn't been revealed it's a pretty good bet that one of the songs included will be "Lighten Up Morrissey," considering Morrissey himself penned the "substantial" intro to the 200 page lyric book, which drops August 31st. Moz, of course, is a pretty huge fan of the Mael brothers - he included "Arts and Crafts Spectacular" on his 2003 compilation Under The Influence; in 2006 the Mael brothers remixed "Suedehead" (reissued last year as a picture disc for Record Store Day), and he even used Sparks' song "Lighten Up Morrissey" as the intro music on part of his 2009 tour. In The Words Of Sparks...Selected Lyrics is available to pre-order now through Amazon.

Meanwhile, Sparks announce details for their North American tour on July 15th. The Revenge Of Two Hands One Mouth Tour will include only 11 dates and will kick off in late October.

Al Jourgensen relives the debauchery in 'Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen'

Al Jourgensen's autobiography, Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen, has just been published. Jon Wiederhorn, who has written several other rock books (including books on the oral history of grunge, oral history of metal, and one on Dimebag Darrell Abbott) lent a hand and helped Jourgensen piece the debauchery together.  In fact, according to an interview in Texas Monthly, Jourgensen admits he's forgotten full Ministry album/tour cycles, so Wiederhorn had to conduct interviews with those close to Jourgensen to piece together what really went down! But as Wiederhorn himself explains in the book's foreword:

"for someone who suffered through twenty years of addiction to cocaine, heroin, crack, and methadone, Jourgensen is extraordinarily coherent. Occasionally he'll repeat himself, but for the most part not only can he recall past episodes in vivid detail, he also analyzes them and puts them into context."

Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen begins with a few pages of tributes from Trent Reznor, Luc Van Acker, Jello Biafra, Jonathan Davis, and others who pay tribute to the significance and influence of Ministry. After that, there's Wiederhorn's foreword, then a prologue from Jourgensen before we finally get on to Chapter 1. But it's worth the wait - this book is solid gold for any Ministry/Jourgensen fan as he details growing up, getting into the music biz, and his wild ride with rock & roll, sex, drugs, addiction, and recovery.  Also scattered through the book are short "intervention" sections which include Q & As with key members of the Ministry/WaxTrax! family such as Luc Van Acker (Revolting Cocks), Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM), Jello Biafra, Gibby Haynes, and late Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia. One of the chapters lists each Ministry/RevCo release with Jourgensen revealing what drugs/substances he and the band were on during the making of the albums (Filth Pig was made under the influence of "99.9 percent heroin.")  A collection of color photos taken throughout Jourgensen's life (including his high school yearbook picture) is also included in the middle section.

Jourgensen's autobiography puts all other 'sex, drugs, and rock & roll' memoirs to shame. The book is very explicit (there's a chapter subtitled "Soul Selling for Blow and Blowjobs"), which should not come as a shock AT ALL to Ministry/RevCo/WaxTrax! fans, and those easily offended should probably give it a pass.  However, if you haven't clicked away yet in disgust, I'm guessing you'll enjoy it immensely and you'll learn a LOT (and perhaps a bit more than you wanted to).  In case you have no idea of what to expect, read an excerpt from a pretty entertaining and dead-on review of the book on Amazon from a reviewer named Ragman:

"...the depravity in this thing is off the charts...I feel like I need a shower and there isn't enough soap in the world. It's outrageous, depraved, and at times absolutely horrifying...stolen cars, IV drug use, stints in an orphanage and mental institution, electro shock therapy, group sex with mental patients, car crashes, alien abductions - and that's just his childhood. We haven't even gotten to the music industry yet. Once it gets to his music career, things get insane: rampant drug use, stabbings, overdoses, more car crashes, arrests, bestiality, women with blood pouring out of their genitals, severed animal heads, transvestites, bags of bodily fluids, Branch Davidians - if you think you get the idea, you really, really don't..."

Ministry will release a live CD/DVD Enjoy The Quiet - Live at Wacken 2012 on August 13th, and a new studio album, From Beer To Eternity, drops September 6th. According to the interview in Texas Monthly, a Ministry tour is being mapped out (Al says he needs the money), plus there's another musical project in the works called Dubistry - which is said to mix the Ministry sound with reggae. The Pixies announce world tour & promise to premiere new songs

Fresh off the debut of their first new single in years, The Pixies announced dates for the first leg of their world tour, plus they've revealed Kim Shattuck from the Muffs will be joining Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering on tour.  Shattuck previously performed with the Pixies in 2009 and the band is excited to bring her on board for the upcoming live dates.  The four have been holed up in Los Angeles rehearsing for the upcoming tour, which will include brand new Pixies material, favorites, and some rarely played songs.  Black Francis posted the following info on the Pixies' official site:

"This will kick off the first tour the Pixies have done in nearly two years, and will give them an opportunity to do something they haven't been able to do in two decades : premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe le Monde."

"Along with everyone's favorites, we'll be playing songs that we haven't played in ages or never played live before...like 'Brick is Red,' 'Havalina,' 'Tony's Theme.' and 'Sad Punk.' We've probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we'll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We're all really looking forward to this tour."

Dates for the European leg of the tour were announced today and more dates are expected to be announced shortly.  Check out the itinerary below along with video from 2009 of the Pixies performing "Here Comes Your Man" with Shattuck at a show in Los Angeles.
