Very bad news indeed: Only a few weeks after the release of its new album, German darkwave/post-punk/psych band Blue Angel Lounge has decided to pack it in and call it a day. The band posted the following announcement on Facebook:

"For many reasons internal and external, we have come to the conclusion to go on separate ways, new projects and discover what we we’ve been missing while working ambitiously on this project for almost a decade.

The Blue Angel Lounge has always been a project above a conceptual band, rather a musical community of friends and people in our close environment that eventually led us to an almost predictable but unfortunately abrupt end.

We would like to thank all of our fans and admirers for all the incredibly great support and for all the unforgettable moments we will never forget.

Last but not least. We would like to apologize to all the people that were involved at Paris Psych Fest and all the fans who wanted to see us play. We are deeply sorry but we could not find a way to get everybody together for one last time to give it the proper ending it definitely deserved.

We hope the music we have managed to achieve will outlast our short existence."

R.I.P. Blue Angel Lounge.

Blue Angel Lounge was unknown in mainstream music circles, however the band was loved and respected by bands such as Interpol, Dandy Warhols, A Place to Bury Strangers, and most notably, Brian Jonestown Massacre. [The band's swan song, Sea of Trees, was released a few weeks ago through A Recordings, Anton Newcombe's record label.] The band's biggest influence was Nico and the Velvet Underground: Blue Angel Lounge was named for the New York City club which hosted Nico's first American performance, and leader Nils Ottensmeyer's vocal style has often been compared to that of a male Nico.

Sea of Trees, the new and final album, compiles a few previously released singles ("Walls") along with brand new material, including the haunting single "Desolate Sands." Take a look at the videos for "Desolate Sands" and "Walls" below, and grab Sea of Trees on CD, vinyl, or as a digital album download (links to purchase: iTunes, Amazon).
