The classic punk rock episode of Quincy, has found its way online. Watch as Jack Klugman rages against evil punk rock music that was clearly corrupting the youth in 1982.  The episode, titled Next Stop Nowhere, originally aired December 1st, 1982 on NBC.  Good times.

After toying with and/or taunting fans by erasing their presence from social media, Radiohead finally gave up the goods and debuted the song "Burn The Witch" today. Radiohead fans have been waiting for this day for a LONG time -- "Burn The Witch" has been in the works for years.  Though Radiohead performed the unfinished version in concert years ago, it took until today for the band to release the haunting and lush single. Additionally Radiohead premiered the accompanying official video for "Burn The Witch" which is said to be influenced by the BBC's classic children's show TV Trumpton. The music world mourns the shocking loss of innovator, icon and musical genius -- Prince has died at the age of 57. According to reports, Prince was found unconscious today at the Paisley Park studios and was unable to be revived. The official cause of death has not been announced, but he was recently hospitalized and treated for "a bad flu" according to his management team. Prince's last performance was April 14th at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

R.I.P.

Cinema Detroit will honor Prince by screening the classic 1984 film Purple Rain next week (starting Monday). More details on that are posted here.

Johnny Marr announced his highly anticipated autobiograpy, Set Me Free, will be published November 3rd. In a posting on his official site, Marr explained the meaning behind the book's title:

"I wanted to convey a feeling of breaking free, that has been a constant throughout my life. A feeling that expresses itself as both escape and discovery. Transcendence. I found it through rock ‘n’ roll and art and a journey living both in the modern world."

Marr didn't elaborate on the finished product, but he has discussed the autobiography in interviews over the past year. Last March he told the BBC he was writing the book without the help of a journalist or ghost writer and it won't focus solely on his time with the Smiths:

"I want it to be my own voice, so I'm writing it...I'm not using a ghostwriter or journalist or anything like that, and I'm just relying on a very, very good memory"

"I got known for what I do by the time I was 19, 20, you know. And there's a lot of life after the Smiths, you know? Obviously I want remember the Smiths and I want to honor the Smiths, and I want to be honest about the Smiths, but there's been a lot of living in between then and now too, so I want to balance it. It's not all going to be super early 80's, you know."

Last July Marr was still working on the book. At that time he told the BBC his goal was to give fans an authentic and truthful representation of his life and experiences:

"If people already kind of like what I do, records and all of that, if by the end of the book they want to hang out with me, then that's the job done, really. I want to celebrate a lucky life...it's not going to be a Disney thing, I want to be straight-headed about things, I want it to be like my life, intense and interesting and a lot of joy in it, and some of the other stuff that has been more mysterious, I want to represent that properly. I want to cover the whole thing."

Marr's autobiography should be a most compelling read. Set Me Free arrives November 3rd. So far pre-order info has not been announced.

Ministry's Al Jourgensen has returned with a new musical project titled Surgical Meth Machine. The band's debut album, which was released Friday, is a bit on the eclectic side. Sure, there are a few metal/thrash songs -- not unlike Ministry's output from the 90's and beyond -- but there are also several tracks on the album that might seem more in line with some of the awesomely weird shit Uncle Al recorded with his old Wax Trax side projects, particularly Revolting Cocks.

To illustrate, check out the vivid, campy video for "I'm Invisible" which features a ton of swanky & colorful Al Jourgensens. Oh and there's also a bizarre random moment featuring a Nickelback cd:

This probably won't shock you, but Jourgensen admitted in a recent Billboard interview that he was pretty out of it during the recording of the album:

"We were stoned out of our gourd and deep into existential territory the whole time we were recording, from what I remember of it. For me, though, SMM is songs that write the band and not a band that writes the songs, which is a back-assward way of working, but it seems to work for me. And I’m in a good place right now [thanks to] my California weed card!"

Listen to another track below titled "I Don't Wanna," which reunites Jourgensen with his Lard partner-in-crime Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys):

And finally here's one of the thrashier songs, "Tragic Alert"

Surgical Meth Machine is available now via Nuclear Blast. Order from iTunes, Amazon, or the Nuclear Blast store.

We're getting closer to the release of Richard Ashcroft's solo album These People, which arrives May 20th. Last month Ashcroft debuted the first single and video for "This Is How It Feels" and now he's issued another track, a surprisingly poppy, intensely sugar-coated number titled "Hold On." A Northern Soul it is not. However it is super catchy in a riding-down-the-freeway-with-the-top-down sort of way. If nothing else, it'll make fans even more eager to hear what else Ashcroft has up his sleeve on the full length record. Indeed it is wonderful Ashcroft is inspired to create new music, and who knows where he'll take us next.

These People will be released on May 20th. Pre-order from iTunes, Amazon, or Richard Ashcroft's official store.

Radiohead insider Brian Message was interviewed earlier today during a speaking engagement at a pub in London. During the discussion, Message reportedly revealed that Radiohead's new album will be out in June and will sound like "nothing you've ever heard." The highly anticipated album still doesn't have an official release date, and most industry insiders are expecting a "surprise" release, much like the release of Radiohead's last album The King Of Limbs.

[UPDATE: Message is part of Radiohead's management team, he is NOT Radiohead's manager. Still, he's certainly an insider and has insight into what the band's new music sounds like).

Radiohead's last release was "Spectre," which the band wrote for the 2015 Bond film.  The film's producers rejected Radiohead's composition, however the band released the track as a free download on Christmas.

Don't let the band name fool you, Montreal's Elephant Stone is NOT a Stone Roses cover band -- they are one of the vital acts in today's psych scene. To date the trio has released three solid and swoonworthy full length albums -- The Three Poisons (2014), Elephant Stone (2013), and The Seven Seas (2009) -- and their fourth album, Ship of Fools, is coming later this year. While the band hasn't announced the official release date for Ship of Fools yet, they have premiered three singles from the album -- "The Devil's Shelter," "Where I'm Going," and "Andromeda."  All three songs are so infectious and glorious that you almost have to drool knowing even more Elephant Stone songs will be unleashed soon.  Prepare yourself for awesomeness and stream all three singles below:

"The Devil's Shelter," released last November, is a slice of excellence and features the awesome Alex Maas of the Black Angels!  View the official video below and download the single from iTunes & Amazon:

"Where I'm At" is by far the catchiest, synthiest, and grooviest of the three tracks -- you won't be able to sit still while this jam is playing! Download from iTunes (so far no listing on Amazon):

Wire recently announced the release of Nocturnal Koreans and issued the mini-album's driving title track. Now the foursome debuted another track from the record titled "Internal Exile," which is less intense than "Nocturnal Koreans," but rocks all the same.  Stream both songs below and pre-order Nocturnal Koreans from Amazon, or Pink Flag. Nocturnal Koreans is out April 22nd.

"The WIRE album was quite respectful of the band, and Nocturnal Koreans is less respectful of the band—or, more accurately, it’s the band being less respectful to itself—in that it’s more created in the studio, rather than recorded basically as the band played it, which was mostly the case with WIRE. A general rule for this record was: any trickery is fair game, if it makes it sound better."

Michael Stipe appeared on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night to perform an exquisite version of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World." Watch Stipe's stirring performance (and mesmerizing beard) below:

Stipe's performance was a warm up for two Bowie tribute concerts happening in New York this week -- Thursday, March 31st at Carnegie Hall and Friday, April 1st at Radio City Music Hall. Friday's tribute streams live courtesy of Skype and is expected to include performances from Stipe, J Mascis, Perry Farrell, Pixies, Debbie Harry, and more (lineup for the show is subject to change). Proceeds from the live stream benefit various music related charities. Find out more here.

Two David Bowie tribute concerts take place in New York this week -- Michael Stipe, Patti Smith, J Mascis, Perry Farrell, Robyn Hitchcock, Laurie Anderson, Debbie Harry, and Flaming Lips are among the artists paying tribute to Bowie March 31st at Carnegie Hall and April 1st at Radio City Music Hall.

The first concert was planned as a tribute before Bowie's untimely passing, and ultimately after the world learned of his death, the concert turned into a memorial. Though the concert was announced prior to his death, tickets went on sale days after Bowie died and tickets sold out immediately. Shortly thereafter a second tribute was organized, which also sold out in record time.

Due to popular demand, Friday's tribute will stream live via Skype and is expected to include performances from Stipe, J Mascis, Perry Farrell, Pixies, Debbie Harry, and more (lineup for the show is subject to change). A small donation is required to access the stream -- proceeds from the stream benefit various music related charities. The list of artists participating in the April 1st live stream and more info on accessing the stream is posted here.

Michael Stipe is back in action this week -- he's confirmed as a guest on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Tuesday, March 29th. It is very rare for Stipe to perform solo, and it's his first appearance on late night TV since R.E.M. broke up, so Tuesday night's performance is certainly a primo Must See TV EVENT. There's no telling what Stipe will sing, but don't count out a David Bowie song, considering he's performing March 31st at the David Bowie tribute at Carnegie Hall, which also features Perry Farrell, Debbie Harry, Pixies, Flaming Lips, Robyn Hitchcock, Laurie Anderson and more.

Brown confirmed new Stone Roses material is in the works, but declined to say how many new songs are in the works.  He revealed the studio sessions were going "like a dream" and the new material sounds "glorious." The Detroit Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to David Bowie one night only July 10th at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre. The Music of David Bowie is a 2 hour concert event featuring Bowie classics performed by the DSO accompanied by a full rock band. The performance features ~ 18 rapturous songs from Bowie's catalog, including "Space Oddity," "Rebel Rebel" "Fame," "Under Pressure," and "Heroes."

Conductor Brent Havens has previously arranged and conducted other symphonic rock tributes featuring music of U2, the Doors, and Pink Floyd among others.  He reveals:

"My concept for The Music of David Bowie was to take the music as close to the originals as we could and then add some colors to enhance what Bowie had done. The wonderful thing with an orchestra is that you have an entire palette to call upon. The band is reproducing what Bowie did on the albums, verbatim, and then having an orchestra behind the band gives the music a richness, a whole different feel, a whole different sense of power."

Tickets for the Music of David Bowie go on sale Saturday, March 26th at 10am.  Pre-sales kick off Thursday, March 24th.

For more details on The Music of David Bowie visit the DSO.

Over the last several years, a new wave of shoegaze acts emerged. While these nu-gaze bands are good at using layered, swirling guitars, many bands can't quite back up the fuzz with SONGS and take it to the next level.  Philadelphia's Nothing is one of the stand out bands of this new shoegaze era -- they not only deliver on classic shoegaze fuzz, but they also have solid production, and perhaps most importantly, mad songwriting skills. Indeed, Nothing is one of the finest shoegaze bands around.

On May 13th, Nothing returns with Tired Of Tomorrow -- the highly anticipated follow up to 2014's Guilty Of Everything. The album promises to be full of fuzzy, powerful, yet melodic songs -- so far the band premiered the first single "Vertigo Flowers," which is brilliant and thunderous.  Check out the video for "Vertigo Flowers" below and pre-order Tired Of Tomorrow through iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, or the official store.
