Dinosaur Jr are preparing to release their new album I Bet On Sky on September 18th, and J Mascis recently spent time in the U.K. doing interviews ahead of the album's release.  It would be an understatement to say the reticent Mascis isn't a fan of interviews: his responses are short (uncomfortably short at times), to the point, and always quite entertaining.

The Guardian published their interview with Mascis yesterday and it's a fun read--Nirvana, Neil Young, Jesus & Mary Chain, Blur, and Damon Albarn were all name-checked.  In the interview Mascis also revealed his favorite Dinosaur Jr album is 1987's You're Living All Over Me, and said he was "mortified" when Spin put him on their cover with the headline 'J Mascis Is God.'  Read the full interview with the Guardian here.

Blur played an intimate show at Margate Winter Gardens on Wednesday night.  The show was the first of four warm-up shows in advance of their Olympic show at Hyde Park.  During the show guitarist Graham Coxon had trouble with his amp and the show was stopped a couple of times in order to repair it. Damon Albarn attempted to soothe the irritated Coxon by giving him the best man-hug ever. Watch video highlights from the show below:

On August 1st, 1987, NME broke the news that the Smiths were breaking up.  San Francisco Weekly decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that fateful date by posting a feature The Top 25 Smiths Songs Of All Time, 25 Years After The Band's Split.  Sure, it's yet another opinion piece with yet another list of someone else's favorite Smiths songs, but this one's worth checking out: unlike most Smiths lists, one MAJOR fan favorite was totally left off and the number one song will most definitely surprise you.  Bonus: the awesome "Sweet & Tender Hooligan" made the top 10.  Read the article here.

As previously reported a 20th anniversary edition of Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance will be published in the fall.  The Quietus recently posted full text of Chapter 28 - Unhappy Birthday here.

British tabloid The Sun published a short story on the Stone Roses today.  The paper quoted a source who confirmed the Stone Roses are working on new music and will likely release the album in 2013.  It's no secret the Roses were planning to release something new--they signed two record deals at the end of last year, announced plans to record new music during their press conference last October, and back in May friends of the band reported a few tracks were already recorded.

A spring 2013 release date for new Stone Roses music sounds likely, especially because it seems to line up with rumors that are flying about the band playing Coachella next year as part of their North American tour (nothing has been announced yet, relax.)

The Sun's report also claims the Stone Roses are going to be playing a secret Olympics show in London.  Read the full story here.

Meanwhile, The Stone Roses recently played the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.  Liam Gallagher, who also played the festival with his band Beady Eye, was in the audience for the Roses' set and rocked out.  If you've ever dreamed of watching Liam Gallagher rock out to the Stone Roses, your dream has been fulfilled:

Liam Gallagher launched his clothing line Pretty Green in 2009 and recently sat down to talk fashion with The Telegraph.  Gallagher's interviews always provide some interesting quotes, and the interview with the Telegraph was no exception:

On musicians who have stylists:

"Who are these judges?  If you like something, you like it, and if someone else doesn't, well it doesn't mean you're wrong, does it?  At least you went out and dressed yourself."

On the possibility of creating a Pretty Green fragrance line:

"I put loads on, you can smell me coming.  So I'd definitely do it, without a doubt.  I've got no idea how you'd go about it, though."

On brother Noel Gallagher:

"I can't talk to him, but I've never hated him.  He's doing his thing and I'll do mine.  But I did enjoy our little spats - since we called a truce the world's just boring.  It's been hell.  We need to get the party started again!  Maybe in Japan..."

Video: Liam and Noel Gallagher both play Fuji Rock Festival, but on different days

Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher played last weekend's Fuji Rock Festival, but to keep the drama to a minimum festival organizers made sure their gigs were on different days. Liam didn't disappoint with the snark during Beady Eye's set - he dedicated the Oasis classic "Rock & Roll Star" to "the one and only Noel Gallagher," and "Morning Glory," to the "High Flying Smurfs."  Oh brother.

Blur performed two sessions for the BBC at Maida Vale studios in London on July 31st.  BBC Radio 6 hosted a three hour Blur special featuring the band's music and interview clips, and concluded with a six-song live performance, including the first ever performance of the 13 track, "Caramel."  After the Radio 6 special, Blur performed an hour-long concert for BBC Radio 2 featuring Blur a set of classics and a rare performance of their song "Young & Lovely" (see the full set list for the concert below.)

Morrissey played Manchester's MEN Arena last night and from all accounts the show was fantastic. Moz appeared to be in great spirits and didn't disappoint with stage banter--he threw down a few digs:

On the Queen: "Congratulations for surviving the Diamond Jubilee? When will we be rid of that family?"

On the Olympics: "You'll notice I wasn't invited to the Olympics opening ceremony because my smile was judged to be too sincere."

On Manchester: "I was recently in Israel where I was given the key to Tel Aviv and it's worth pointing out that the governing bodies of Manchester council have offered me absolutely nothing...and I don't know why"

Judging from fan comments on Twitter, musically the fan favorite seemed to be his amazing emotional performance of "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want." Take a look at fan shot footage and links to pictures from the show below:
