Johnny Marr is set to return with his new solo album later this year. NME caught up with the guitar legend and managed to squeeze out a little bit of info about the new album out of Marr plus he talked a bit about his friendship with Noel Gallagher.

Marr described third studio album as "emotional," "out there," and "dramatic," with "deeper" lyrics. Though he says most of the songs are concerned with external things, he's also included a few personal songs.

Though Marr has appeared on a couple of Noel Gallagher's albums, including the most recent Who Built The Moon? the ex-Oasis star does not appear on Marr's new album. Marr explained:

"Not yet, because he’s always playing. He’s always on the road. That’s the second time I’ve played on one of his solo records now, so hopefully we’ll get around to working on my stuff. He’s always off in exotic places every time I hear from him – like some enormodome in South America.

“I liked his record. I played on a couple, but the song that ended up on the record is actually my favourite on the album. I was pleased about that, ‘Love Is The Law’. I’ve never heard a rock song like it. It hangs together like nothing else. It’s like a fucking movie."

Marr's hasn't announced a release date for the record but it is expected later on this year.
