London psych-rock faves TOY return with the follow up to 2013's Join The Dots this autumn. Though it's been a few years since the release of Join The Dots, TOY have been busy -- they've toured extensively, collaborated with Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) on the side project Sexwitch, plus underwent a lineup change (Alejandra Diez left and was replaced by Max Oscarnold).
During the second half of 2015, TOY headed back into the studio to record their third studio album. The resulting dark psych/rock album Clear Shot features ten new glorious, breathtaking and mystifying tracks. Clear Shot was recorded at EVE studios in England (famous for experimental and vintage recording equipment) and was mixed in Los Angeles by Chris Coady, who reportedly utilized some of the reverbs and vocal processors used on Prince's Purple Rain.
Clear Shot will be released on October 28th. TOY fans have even more to look forward to though -- a selection of tracks recorded during the Clear Shot sessions that didn't make the album will be released on a companion EP, which also arrives October 28th through Heavenly Recordings. Viva la TOY!
Stream TOY's brand new single "Fast Silver" below (via Stereogum) and pre-order Clear Shot through Heavenly Recordings here. Catch up with the band on their official site or Facebook.
If you're not familiar with TOY, remedy that immediately and stream TOY's phenomenal "Kopter" (from their self-titled debut album) below. EPIC!

Get ready! New Order is launching its own beer later this month. The band announced they've teamed up with Moorhouse's Brewery of Burnley to launch a new premium beer called Stray Dog (the beer is named after the Music Complete track featuring Iggy Pop on vocals). The premium 4.2% golden ale has been described as:
"...a refreshing and clean tasting golden ale with hints of citrus fruit and lychee, all balanced by a subtle bitterness."
Stray Dog premieres August 28th at a special New Order-themed evening in Manchester at The Sawyer's Arms, and will be available exclusively Mitchells & Butlers pubs during the U.K.'s Bank Holiday weekend (August 28 - August 31st). In September Stray Dog will be available at pubs throughout the U.K. plus a bottled version will also be sold at supermarkets and will be available as export.
New Order announced the news on its official website, stating:
"It’s been a pleasure to work with Moorhouse’s of Burnley on our first foray into the brewing business."
This is not only New Order's first foray into the brewing business, but it's also the first time Moorhouse's of Burnley has collaborated with a band to launch a beer.

Black metal/Blackgaze band Alcest announced a new album, Kodama, will be released September 30th. As you might guess from the title, the band's fifth album is Japanese-influenced (the title means "tree spirit"), and sonically the music is a return to the band's earlier, heavier sound. The band revealed to Noisey:
"I think we couldn’t have gone even softer then we went, because Shelter was the softest record we have done. We wanted to go back to something a bit more punchy, because at the time we felt this need, in a very natural way, because after such a mellow record, you want to make something a bit more punchy."

Morrissey is gearing up to hit the road for his world tour which kicks off this Saturday in Norway. Mozzer is doing some press interviews in promotion of the tour, and the first of these interviews was just published by Australian paper News. As is the case with virtually all Morrissey interviews these days, the interview was conducted via email, so the interviewer didn't have a chance to prod deeper into his responses. Still, Morrissey interviews are always entertaining and this one is no exception. Much of the feature tackles the usual Moz faire -- politics, the Royal family, and vegetarianism -- but there were also a few fun nuggets:
On Steven, the upcoming Morrissey biopic, starring Jack Lowden:
"I know nothing about it. I wasn’t consulted, so they obviously didn’t want my clarity to muddle up their perspective of how things were, or are, or should be."
On whether any unreleased Smiths' rarities exist:
"Only a cover of Elvis Presley’s A Fool Such As I. I don’t even have a copy of it, but I expect it will spring out one day"
As for the requisite Smiths' reunion question, Morrissey was asked if time heals wounds (with respect to reuniting with Johnny Marr):
"It's no longer a question of time or wounds, but simply that the issue is now so remote that the question doesn’t make sense any more."
Morrissey also confirmed reports of him running for Mayor of London were true, plus he answered questions about his setlists, vinyl, and his experience recording for Harvest Records. Read the full interview with Morrissey here.

Peter Hook announced his memoir about New Order will be released this autumn. Substance: Inside New Order is Hooky's third book and promises to be quite a read for New Order fans. The 768 (!!!) page book promises to be a no-holds barred, dirt-dishing tome, focusing on the (sometimes tumultuous) history of one of the best and most important bands in alt rock. It also includes exclusive photographs and archival images from Hook's personal collection.
From the press release:
"Peter Hook has written a no-holds-barred, comprehensive account of the band's entire history, packed with outrageous anecdotes and including every set list and tour itinerary and interspersed with 'geek facts' of every piece of electronic equipment used to forge the sound that changed the direction of popular music."
The release of Substance: Inside New Order coincides with Hook's upcoming tour -- he'll perform both Joy Division's and New Order's Substance in full on the road in North America this October & November.
Substance: Inside New Order will be released in the U.K./Europe on October 6th, and in the U.S. on November 15th. Pre-order here, and view tour dates for Hook's tour below.

As previously reported, Dave Gahan and Mark Lanegan teamed up with Martyn LeNoble and Christian Eigner to record a cover of David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)." The track, which was released today, was recorded as a benefit single for the American Liver Foundation. Fans of Soulsavers and Mark Lanegan will not be disappointed with this superb and mesmerizing take on Bowie's classic. Sonically this is Soulsavers spellbinding, moody music paired with Lanegan's unmistakably gravelly yet oh-so-soothing and entrancing vocals; Gahan provides backup vocals for the last minute of the song. This is a beautiful and captivating version of a classic track. Bowie would be proud.
"Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" is currently not available for streaming because it is a benefit single. Do yourself (and those with liver disease) a favor by purchasing the track digitally via iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp. All proceeds go to the American Liver Foundation.
UPDATE: Lenoble has made the song available to stream. It'd still be cool if you bought a copy though.
LeNoble was a founding member of Porno For Pyros and has worked with Mark Lanegan and Soulsavers in the past; Eigner collaborated with Dave Gahan on several Depeche Mode songs released on 2005's Playing The Angel and 2009's Sounds Of The Universe.
The original version of "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" was recorded by David Bowie and Giorgio Moroder in 1981 and served as the theme song for the 1982 remake of the film Cat People. Bowie went on to re-record the track and released a new version on 1983's Let's Dance.

2016 has just gotten infinitely better: Swedish dreampop outfit The Radio Dept announced details for a new studio album. Running Out Of Love, the band's fourth studio album and first since 2010's Clinging To A Scheme, will arrive on October 21st. The album features 9 new tracks along with the previously released "Occupied" from their 2015 Occupied EP.
The Radio Dept explained in a statement why they've been away for so long -- one of the major reasons was they were embroiled in a legal battle with their label and publisher, and once that was settled they became motivated once again to create new music. Read the Radio Dept's full statement on what they were up to over the past few years here.

Parlophone Records announced the second installment in their David Bowie boxset series will be released on September 23rd. David Bowie - Who Can I Be Now? (1974 – 1976) follows 2014's David Bowie: Five Years (1969 - 1973), picking up where the first set left off and largely focusing on Bowie's "American" years. Released as a 12 CD or 13 LP set, the collection includes Diamond Dogs, David Live (original mix), David Live (2005 mix), The Gouster (previously unreleased as a complete album), Young Americans, Station To Station (1976), Station To Station (2010 Harry Maslin Mix), Live Nassau Coliseum '76, and Re:Call 2. A book featuring rare and previously unpublished photos, press releases, reviews, and technical notes from the album comes with the set (CD edition has 128 page book; LP edition has 84 pages).
Pre-order info will be announced shortly, but in the meantime take a look the tracklisting for The Gouster from the set below and read the press statement for David Bowie - Who Can I Be Now? (1974 - 1976) here.

*According to Tony Visconti, the version of "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)" on the Gouster is an "outrageous...funkafied version of David's classic "John, I'm Only Dancing," a single he wrote and recorded in 1972, only this time our version sounded like it was played live in a loft party in Harlem and he added (Again) to the title."
Over the last few months Elephant Stone issued a series of brilliant psych/rock singles, building anticipation for the announcement of its fourth full length record. The band has now finally announced details for the new album Ship Of Fools. The 11 track record will include the three previously issued singles, plus the brand new single "Manipulator." Ship Of Fools arrives digitally on September 16th and physically (LP/CD/cassette) on November 25th. Pre-order from iTunes, Amazon, or Pledge Music.

In 2014 Oasis reissued Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory as part of a larger reissue campaign Chasing The Sun: Oasis in the 90s. Mysteriously the band's 1997 album Be Here Now was not included in the 2014 reissue campaign -- was the album was omitted because Oasis themselves hated the record, was the overall campaign too ambitious for an already busy release schedule, or did the band just need more time to curate the collection? Whatever the reason, Oasis has now announced details for the 2016 reissue of Be Here Now.
Be Here Now - Chasing The Sun: 1993 - 1997 is set for an October 7th release. Like the reissues for Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory, the songs have been remastered from the original tapes, and several expanded editions featuring demos, outtakes, and live versions are available. Options include: the standard CD, Special Edition 3 CD set, 12" vinyl LP (with download code for bonus content), Super Deluxe Box Set (includes LP, Special Edition 3 CD set, hardback coffee table book, exclusive vinyl, and 12" white label sampler of Mustique demos & Oasis merchandise). Exciting news for The The fans in the UK -- the band's legendary film Infected - The Movie is set to be screened for three consecutive nights at ICA Cinema. The screenings, which are the first public showings in almost 30 years, will be followed by a Q & A session with Matt Johnson and TimPope (Pope directed three videos for The The). And wait, this thrilling event gets even better (if that's possible!) -- after the film screening, fans are treated to the premiere of a trailer for The The's forthcoming documentary Radio Cineola: The Inertia Variations (according to The The, the doc features footage from Matt Johnson's Radio Cineola broadcast events from 2015 and this past May -- you may recall that the May 14th, 2016 broadcast featured Johnson performing a glorious new The The song).
Infected - The Movie screenings take place September 2nd through September 4th at ICA Cinema. Visit the official site for tickets and more info.
If you dig classic synth artists like Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, and Marc Almond, or newer synth acts like TR/ST you'd be wise to check out a intriguing newish retro-electro trio out of Oakland named Introflirt. The band describes itself as "croonwave" which kind of makes sense once you hear the songs -- the dark electro vibe pairs nicely with vocalist Ben Benjamin's silky/croony vocals and alluring lyrics. Introflirt releases its compelling second album, Temporary Heaven, on August 2nd and has premiered two singles (with alluring cover art). Enjoy both tracks -- "Orange Light" and "Frozen Lace" -- from the album below.
Temple Of The Dog -- Chris Cornell, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, and Matt Cameron -- have reunited and will perform anniversary shows this November. The Temple of the Dog reunion tour will be short and sweet -- only 5 dates are planned and tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, July 29th. Pre-sale tickets for all of the shows are going on now (Password: "Phrases"). For more details click here.

Legendary electro/proto-punk pioneer Alan Vega has died at the age of 78. Henry Rollinsbroke the news yesterday and passed along the following message from Vega's family:
"With profound sadness and a stillness that only news like this can bring, we regret to inform you that the great artist and creative force, Alan Vega has passed away. Alan passed peacefully in his sleep last night, July 16. He was 78 years of age. Alan was not only relentlessly creative, writing music and painting until the end, he was also startlingly unique. Along with Martin Rev, in the early 1970’s, they formed the two person avant band known as Suicide. Almost immediately, their incredible and unclassifiable music went against every possible grain. Their confrontational live performances, light-years before Punk Rock, are the stuff of legend. Their first, self-titled album is one of the single most challenging and noteworthy achievements in American music. Alan Vega was the quintessential artist on every imaginable level. His entire life was devoted to outputting what his vision commanded of him. One of the greatest aspects of Alan Vega was his unflinching adherence to the demands of his art. He only did what he wanted. Simply put, he lived to create. After decades of constant output, the world seemed to catch up with Alan and he was acknowledged as the groundbreaking creative individual he had been from the very start. Alan’s life is a lesson of what it is to truly live for art. The work, the incredible amount of time required, the courage to keep seeing it and the strength to bring it forth—this was Alan Vega. Alan is survived by his amazing family, wife Liz and son Dante. His incredible body of work, spanning five decades, will be with us forever."
Vega's work -- he was in the band Suicide and released several solo records -- inspired countless bands and helped shape electro-synth/alternative music. Everyone from Joy Division, Sisters Of Mercy, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, R.E.M., Radiohead, Spiritualized, Jesus & Mary Chain, and so many more considered Vega an influence.

The incredibly cool indie label Sonic Cathedral is releasing a fantastic new Kraftwerk covers EP on July 23rd. The very limited edition EP was pressed on glow in the dark vinyl! Ja Bitte! features four Kraftwerk songs reinterpreted by Remover (MB & JN from Hookworms), Cloudland Canyon, Disappears, and White Manna.

If you were around in the 90s you're most likely familiar with the 90's band Mono -- the band's ethereal and Bond-esque song "Life In Mono," which was featured on the Great Expectations soundtrack was a mammoth alterna-hit. Mono's silky-toned vocalist Siobhan De Mare eventually moved to work on other projects, notably Violet Indiana which also featured legendary Cocteau Twins' guitarist Robin Guthrie.
Fast forward to 2016 and De Mare has an entirely new project -- she's teamed up with Gary Bruce for a bewitching new band titled Swoone. The duo just signed to Saint Marie Records and they've debuted their first song titled "This Bullet Never Kills." Fans of Mono and enchanting dream pop need to delve in below.
Swoone recently wrapped up recording a full album, and release details should be announced soon. In the meantime, catch up with the band on Facebook and read more about Swoone here.
The Stone Roses played their sole North American gig at New York's Madison Square Garden on June 30th. The band was in fine form firing on all cylinders for a magical night of Madchester perfection -- Ian Brown effortlessly belted out anthem after anthem while dancing with his jinglestick; Mani & Reni provided infectious propelling rhythms, and John Squire magnificently proved he is truly a guitar god. Superb.
Enjoy some excellent fan-filmed video from the Roses' triumphant return courtesy of Steve Easton.

Dave Gahan and Mark Lanegan teamed up with Martyn LeNoble and Christian Eigner to record a cover of David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)." According to LeNoble, the track was recorded as a benefit single for the American Liver Foundation . The cover was uploaded to LeNoble's Bandcamp page by mistake a few days ago, but has since been pulled down. The single will officially be released digitally on August 2nd.

As previously reported, Book Of Love celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a new compilation and anniversary tour. MMXVI – The 30th Anniversary Collection was just released and includes newly remastered versions of Book Of Love's greatest hits along with previously unreleased demos and two brand new songs "All Girl Band" and "Something Good." The new tracks are the band's first new material in over 15 years -- their last new song "Try" was released in 2001 on their greatest hits collection I Touch Roses: The Best Of Book Of Love.
Check out one of the brand new songs titled "All Girl Band":
Ted Ottaviano from Book of Love explained to Rhino how the new compilation came about:
"We had people asking us to do certain things, so when John Hughes [at Rhino] saw us do a show in L.A. last year and asked, “What about freshening up some tracks and getting them out there, now that there’s a whole new streaming world of people listening to your music?” I was excited by the idea. Even though our stuff is still around, it hasn’t really been newly mastered in quite a long time...So I wanted to go ahead and just polish up the tracks that I feel like should still be out there just doing their thing, so we put together a compilation of tracks that we loved." "They asked us if we would get back in the studio and create two new tracks. So that’s what we’ve been working on since the late winter and early spring: these two new songs. One’s called “All Girl Band,” the other’s called “Something Good,” and…it was fun! I actually just loved doing it."
As for the future of Book of Love, Ottaviano isn't revealing too much other than they're back together:
"I don’t want to really lay out what our next plan is, but we’re back in action."

MC5's second studio album High Time has been reissued on 180 gm vinyl.
