David Byrne has announced details for American Utopia, his first new solo album since 2004's Grown Backwards.

The ex-Talking Heads leader officially announced the album during his Reasons To Be Cheerful talk he gave at New School in New York yesterday, plus he debuted the first song "Everybody's Coming To My House," a track he co-wrote with Brian Eno (Eno co-wrote several of the songs on American Utopia).

Byrne explained the theme/inspiration behind American Utopia:

"These songs don’t describe an imaginary or possibly impossible place but rather attempt to depict the world we live in now. Many of us, I suspect, are not satisfied with that world—the world we have made for ourselves. We look around and we ask ourselves—well, does it have to be like this? Is there another way? These songs are about that looking and that asking."

Byrne plans on hitting the road in support of American Utopia later this year. The extensive tour is currently in the pre-production phase, but Byrne says it will focus on human interaction (his large group of musicians relating to the audience) and will be the most ambitious show he's done since Stop Making Sense.

So far only a handful of live dates have been announced but many more are on the way, so stay tuned.

American Utopia arrives March 9th. Pre-order here and watch the video for "Everybody's Coming To My House" below.
